  • Sociology Question

This is a standard type of paper assigned in social and political theory courses

around the country, but its concept may be new to you if you’ve never had a theory

class before. Hence this explanation, which we’ll discuss in class as well. The paper will

allow you, as an undergrad, to grapple directly with a core text rather than the usual

textbooks or summaries. Hopefully, it will stretch your mind as part of a fruitful learning

experience. The paper is to be mainly an elaboration in your own words of a small

portion of the course readings. It is not a research paper or a paper that makes an

argument or takes a side, although you can certainly express your opinions briefly in

your conclusion. Rather, your job is to grasp the key theoretical points in the assigned

texts, to write about them clearly and logically, and to prove that you have gotten it

right by illustrating up your key points with quotations from the texts that are part of

    the paper assignment.

Content: Using Max Weber on Protestantism as well as class discussions as your

sources, discuss and evaluate Weber’s thesis concerning the relationship of

Protestantism to capitalism. Based on lecture, what is Webers general thesis/idea

about this relationship? How did he think that the mentality of Protestant sects in

America illustrate and encourage the capitalist spirit? How for example was religion

used as a credit reference? How did Protestant sects with very rigorous membership

criteria help foster the capitalist spirit? How did Methodist rules about honest trading?

    3

How do the US founder and philosopher Benjamin’s Franklin’s well-known expressions

that “time is money” and “honesty is the best policy” illustrate Weber’s points about the

capitalist mentality? Finally, based on your own experiences in work situations or those

of people you know, in what ways is the type of mentality Weber is describing present

or absent in the culture of work in today’s USA

    Requirements: 1500-2500 words, 5-8 pages

    • Summarize the problem the profession faces.
    • Identify the most important factor(s) in the problem that your question was created to answer.
    1. Demonstrate how you developed your question through the following four steps:
    • Identify patterns of symptoms.
    • Analyze patterns of symptoms.
    • Investigate symptoms through research.
    • Hone question through multiple iterative drafts.

  • JOURNAL FINAL

    Prompt

In this journal assignment, you will review a few provided resources on how studies can become famous before they are verified. You will then reflect on how this can happen and why it might be a problem.

    • First, read , a three-page section of a FlatWorld resource. Focus on the key takeaways toward the bottom of the section.
    • Then, take note of the main points from .
    • Afterward, watch the video .

Using these three sources, the following elements must be addressed in 400500 words.

    • Identify how studies become famous before they are verified.
    • Address why this is a problem.
    • Use reasoning and examples from the readings and video.
  • DISCUSSION FINAL

ANSWER EACH PROMPT WITH 250 WORDS OR MORE

PROMPT 1: Review the course outcomes found on the syllabus and required resources for this week. Share one concept that you learned in this course that you plan to apply as you enter into the workforce. As you move into the field, what role will multiculturalism play in your thoughts and actions professionally?

PROMPT 2: P-hacking is a new way people can manipulate data to show correlations between variablesvariables that actually have no correlation whatsoever.

    • Watch the video for a more thorough understanding.
    • Then, look at , or read , which show p-hacking in action.
    • Additionally, watch this Rethinking Research Data TED Talk video. If you are interested in politics and want to try p-hacking for yourself, use the to find trends between the two major political parties in the United States.

P-hacking is a way to tell the truth in a mathematical sense by finding correlations. In your initial discussion post, answer the following question:

    • Do you think p-hacking is ethical?
    • How can the media and/or society respond to this issue in an informed way?
    • How might it impact our daily lives?

  • Cultural Impact Assessment

Cultural impact assessment – 500 words

I chose Bad Bunny as a Celebrity

For this assessment you must pick a celebrity of your choosing and provide a 500 word analysis regarding your view as to how they have impacted society.

You should try to argue that your chosen celebrity has had an impact on society, either good, bad or mixed. When constructing your argument you should use a mixture of academic literature and news/online media. You can also use your own personal reflections as well but these do need to be supported.

When considering your celebritys impact, you may wish to write about their impact on areas such as fans, policy, geopolitics, their particular industry or wider societal issues such as gender, race, etc.

You are free to choose whoever you want as a celebrity. It can be an A-lister or someone who is famous only to a particular community. However, I would advise against picking political celebrities such as Donald Trump or Nigel Farage. If you are unsure that your celebrity is suitable, contact me and I can let you know.

The core marking criteria for this assessment include:

    • Strength of argument/case put forward
    • Key areas of impact identified
    • Original thought, analysis and evaluation
    • Use of relevant academic literature and other sources to support claims being made
    • Clarity of writing

As well as providing a full, properly referenced bibliography, you may also include an appendix should you wish to include screenshots of things that you reference (eg social media posts, images from news articles etc)

Use learnings from the ppts I provided
