NO AI. Assignment: Write a paper that compares and contrasts the three perspectives in sociological social psychology: symbolic interaction, social structure and personality, and group processes. Formatting: This paper should be 5-10 pages in length (12 point font, double-spaced), not including title page, figures, tables, references, or any other extras. Expectations: This paper should include a well thought out comparison and discussion of the three perspectives. This should include the following components: 1. A thorough summary of the perspective, including a discussion of the core principles of the perspective (for SI or SSP) or the core processes that are studied (in the case of GP). In addition to the core principles/processes of each perspective, your summary could discuss 1) the perspectives view on the relationship between the individual and society; 2) the perspectives conception of social structure; 3) the methods generally used in each perspective; 4) the types of research questions that are typically asked and the topics that are generally studied within each perspective. 2. A discussion of the similarities and differences of each perspective. What do these perspectives have in common? Where do they differ? For the compare and contrast section, students should highlight meaningful differences between the three perspectives and discuss how those differences connect to the broader theoretical concerns of the perspectives. Ideally, at least half of the paper should be spent explicitly comparing and contrasting the perspectives. In general, it will be helpful for you to draw from examples in lectures and from the text in order to illustrate the similarities and differences between the perspectives. This can be completely made up. You will create a one-page digital poster that connects sociological concepts and theories in this course to your life. Posters, or emails formatted like a poster, are often used to convey information in a way that catches the viewer’s attention. As such, they feature strong visual elements. Creating good posters can help in job settings where there’s a regular need to quickly communicate new information. It’s also a skill you can use in your personal life (from having a yard sale to volunteering).

  • Sociological Perspectives on Global and Racial Inequality

A little information on chapter 9 While global poverty rates have been cut by more than half since 2000, one in ten people in developing regions still lives on less than US$1.90 a day, the internationally agreed poverty line, and millions of others live on slightly more. Significant progress has been made in Eastern and Southeastern Asia, but up to 42 percent of the population in sub-Saharan Africa continues to live below the poverty line. While many people think that poverty means only lack of income and the resources people need to earn an income, it means much more: hunger, malnutrition, lack of education, lack of access to basic government services, discrimination, exclusion from opportunities of all kinds, and lack of agency. Approximately 10 percent of the worlds population still lives in conditions of extreme poverty. These people must continually struggle to meet their most basic needs, such as food, clean water, and access to education. And poverty affects men and women unequally: for every 100 men age 25 to 34 who live in poverty, there are 122 women. And by 2030, more than 160 million children will still be at risk of extreme poverty. While global poverty rates have been cut by more than half since 2000, one in ten people in developing regions still lives on less than US$1.90 a day. Poverty facts and figures: 736 million people lived below the international poverty line of US$1.90 a day in 2015. In 2018, almost 8 percent of the worlds workers and their families lived on less than US$1.90 per person per day. Most people living below the poverty line belong to two regions: southern Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. High poverty rates are often found in small, fragile, and conflict-affected countries. As of 2018, 55 percent of the worlds population had no access to at least one social protection cash benefit. The persistence of poverty, including extreme poverty, remains a major concern in Africa, the least developed countries, small island developing states, some middle-income countries, and countries in situations of conflict. Therefore the UN General Assembly proclaimed the Third United Nations Decade for the Eradication of Poverty (20182027). This Third Decade will focus on the development goals related to poverty eradication, including the Sustainable Development Goals. Assignment reflective writing. Link to the textbook

This assignment is based on the textbook. You do not need any references, nor any Al generated material. It is your reflection on what you have learnt.
    Your task:
Pick any 5 concepts or theories from textbook (50 points)
Example of concepts: Anomie, Generalized other, Cultural relativism, environmental racism
For each concept reflect on the following aspects:
Prompt 1 -What is this concept about what is it trying to explain? (3 points)
Prompt 2 -Give an example of its application. (How will you use it to understand society better, Why you personally feel it is relevant) (7 points)
    You will write about 5 concepts. Prompt 1 (5 concepts X 3 = 15 points) and Prompt 2 (5 concepts X 7 =35). This is a 50-point assignment.

    Example:
    Concept/theory
    What is this concept about
Give an example of its application.

    Verstehen
This concept is related to Marx Webers philosophy of anti-positivism. Weber was interested in understanding interpretive meaning of social action. He was critical of standard scientific methods. Weber and Dilthey introduced the concept of Verstehen (understanding in deep way) to focus on the actors point of view.
This concept can be applied in qualitative research. While quantitative data provides a good overview of a topic, I personally feel that a detailed look at any issue gives valid understanding of the topic. For example, I am interested in understanding why there is a decline in average family size (number of children born is declining) Census data will provide an overall picture of declining family size. But to gain an in-depth understanding of what goes on into decisions about starting a family, I need to understand actors point of view. I have to understand culture and interpretive meanings couples attach to having a complete family. The concept of Verstehen will guide me towards a deep understanding of the topic.
How the assignment will be graded:
How the assignment will be graded:

    Gender Paper #1

This paper encourages you to reflect on material from class in the context of your own life and current events detailing news about gender related issues. I would like to select 4 concepts from at least 2 different chapters to examine a bit deeper. You will need to clearly define the concept, talk about its influences in your life, how it is encouraged/discouraged, and think analytically about how this concept has changed over time and the ways you expect it may change and be challenged in the future. Given that concepts related to gender are not static but ever changing, this should be a key feature in what you write. This assignment is worth 100 points because rather than just defining something, you should show that you are thinking deeply about these concepts and demonstrate understanding and application.

Feel free to add images and evidence as you see fit, but keep in mind anything you add in terms of image does not count towards the page count (ie- if you put a half page image it does not count towards your 4 pages). While this is a self-reflection this is not a forum for unsubstantiated opinions. This is the paper of thoughtful, critical scholars who provide evidence. Advocacy of ideas in the course should be elaborated by observations in your own life. Criticism should show evidence and citations if possible. Phrases like “I agree” or “I disagree” without providing evidence for your claims will be penalized!

Advice on getting started: First, select you concepts and find a definition of it from within the book. Second think about who were the biggest influencers of this concept in your life and has that changed over time? Think of the ways you have been encouraged or discouraged regarding this concept (ie- parents calling something is a phase is a common discouragement). Think deeply about this because it is often subtle (also if you use phase then provide evidence and come up with others in the other concepts that do not highlight that, meaning you cannot use it throughout and expect full points). Third, think about how this has changed for you and imagine how it may in the future. Do you think your understanding will change as a middle-aged person? When youre retired? As a grandparent (If you see yourself doing that?). If you pull in outside sources, please use citations. Stick with your chosen citation style- MLA, APA, ASA, etc. I dont mind which, just be consistent.

This paper should be at least 4 pages long, with 1-inch margins, and times new roman font. If one of these items is violated an automatic 5 points will be deducted. See below on the other items in the rubric:

    1. Defined each concept (4)- 20 points
    2. Applied each concept to live (4)- 20 points
    3. Discussed how it was fostered through encourage/discourage (4)- 20 points
    4. Changes over time (4)- 20 points
    5. Cite definitions and outside sources, clarity, flow of paper, and free from errors – 20 points

    Total 100 points
