In a paper of 1,000 words, describe an organization with which you have direct personal experience and which appears to fit the characteristics of a bureaucracy, as listed in Chapter 6 of Our Social World: An Introduction to Sociology.

The text discusses “Theoretical Perspectives (Theories) in Sociology” in Chapter 2. As a student, you sociologically view the world in a particular way. Do you see society as a system where all the various parts work together to keep the system functioning smoothly (structural functionalism), or do you see society as a place where various groups are struggling for power and influence in competition with other groups (conflict theory)? Perhaps you see the world primarily as a place that is about relationships between people and how people understand each other and understand what is expected of them in different situations (symbolic interactionism).

Write a paper (750-1,000 words) to address the following:

1. Describe and explain the three core theories of sociology.
2. Identify which sociological theories (structural functionalism, conflict theory, or symbolic interactionism) most closely represents your view of the world.
3. Describe the factors that have caused you to view the world through that perspective, such as personal experience in our society, popular culture, media, etc.
4. Use an example from world events that demonstrates evidence of your theory.
5. Briefly explain why you did not choose each of the other two perspectives being careful to demonstrate that you understand the other perspectives.

Run a transformation on your variable to create a normal distribution. Provide the formula used to transform the variable. Hints: Is your data positively or negatively skewed? Does your variable range include 0? 4. Re-run your Descriptives. Is this new distribution normal in terms of symmetry and shape? Provide the values of the statistics, and explain how you know whether your variable is normally distributed or not. 5. Are there any extreme frequencies which may be affecting your new distribution? a) If yes, filter the original non-transformed variable, and provide the filtering formula. Hint: Select cases. Additional hint: Look at your original histogram! Re-run your Descriptives on the transformed variable. Is this new distribution normal in terms of symmetry and shape? Provide the values of the statistics, and explain how you know whether your variable is normally distributed or not. b) If you do not think there are any extreme frequencies, explain your reasoning. 6. Are there any outliers that fall outside of the normal distribution? Identify the case numbers of the highest and lowest outliers. (Hint: look at the Extreme Values output to identify outliers!) Your lab report must include the SPSS output, including the Descriptives box, Extreme Values box, and histogram for the original, transformed, and filtered (if necessary) variables.
