  • Lehman Matrix

This assignment is the most challenging part, although it consists of four (4) relatively short steps.

Step #1: After writing your “refined” RQ, please reflect, in no less than 50 words, about: Why did you choose this research topic?

STEP #2: Download the file (.doc) attached, called Lehman’s Matrix. This might help you to organize the most important findings of your selected papers. In row #1 (top), identify the column by its main author and the publication yr. Repeat this for each article. Your Lehman’s Matrix template is unique to this session and may differ from assignments in previous years.

Step #3: Skim your selected papers, and look specifically for population/sample (P), Time(T), and outcome/conclusion. In the Literature Review section of each paper, try to identify which similarities they have. Similarities (2) means that, in different ways, two or more papers are addressing the same problem/phenomena.

What is/are the Research Question(s) or hypothesis/es under analysis/es? Did the author(s) validate his/their hypothesis or research question? Please repeat this for each article.

Step #4: Reflect on the gap you notice in the literature or the disagreement among authors. Discuss two (2) major disagreements among your papers. Please repeat this for each article. List each in the matrix table.

E.g. In contrast to Gonzalez et al (2023), the paper published by Suarez & Smith (2021) the sample was not….

E.g. The theoretical model applied by Gonzalez et al (2023) seems similar to the one published by Suarez & Smith (2021). However, …

Following the “matrix table” (see the prompt) is a very basic approach recommended by Lehmans Library. Please follow the steps #1, #2, and #3 for each academic paper. When you are done, you will be able to easily see which articles share common themes and where there are gaps in the research regarding coverage of certain concepts. Do not forget to list papers’ authors alphabetically!

(The easy way to do this part is using the table attached, listing the selected papers one by one, andsuccinctly answering the question under each step/letter/section)

For your convenience, the table and an example are attached.

Step #5: A PDF copy of the first page of each selected peer-reviewed paper analyzed must be uploaded.

    My research topic is

    • Diabetes-related health outcomes and healthcare utilization among underserved populations (using telehealth and community/community-based approaches)

Saudi hospital administrative workers are turning to Artificial Intelliegence (AI) technology more frequently when completing written English tasks including emails, reports, and official documents. However, AI technologies are unable to aid individuals in real-time conversations, such as meetings and everyday workplace interactions. Since AI tools assist with written but not oral communication, employees may have different perceptions of how AI writing tools affect their written versus verbal communication.

Although some studies have examined AI writing tools, few have explored hospital administrative employees perceptions in Saudi Arbia and how they believe AI affects their communication. The way in which employees perceive AI can impact how they perform their jobs and their self-assessment of their communication competence.

Therefore, it is important to research employees perceptions of AI-assisted writing as it relates to witten and spoken English communication in the workplace to help develop professional training courses that meet their needs in AI-incorporated workplaces.

    Main Research Question:

How do hospital adminstrative employees in Saudi Arabia perceive the role of AI- assisted tools in their written and spoken English communication at work?

Give examples. Describe the sources Johnson and Trujillo used to support their arguments about immigration law and immigration from Mexico and the so-called “crisis” at the U.S.- Mexico Border. List three examples of primary sources and three examples of secondary sources. This information is found in the footnotes, endnotes or bibliography at the end of the book. A. A primary source is an account of events at the time they occurred. Examples of primary sources include but are not limited to: newspaper articles, contemporary studies, government reports, diaries, letters, manuscript collections, oral interviews and personal testimonies. This assignment will be submitted to TurnitinTM. Instructions AN OVERVIEW OF RESEARCH PAPER REQUIREMENTS See APA Writing Guide. Note that the sources used to support your research need to be peer-reviewed/scholarly journals and must have been published within the past 5-10 years of the present date. Older sources may be used, but only with prior permission from the course instructor. Research Paper Assignment: You must submit an 810-full page (top to bottom) research paper, excluding the title page, abstract page, and reference page. Your paper MUST be in APA Format (7th Edition). See attached Sample APA 7th Edition paper. Choose a topic of interest to you that relates specifically to this course. I recommend selecting a topic that you have limited knowledge about but are nonetheless interested in learning more about that topic. Your topic must be approved in advance with a brief explanation as to why you chose the topic, along with your plan of what you intend to learn from your research, by the end of week 2. Submitting a paper on a topic that was not approved in week 2 by your instructor may result in a failing grade. It is recommended that you use the APUS library’s database to find at least five, peer-reviewed articles published within the past 5-10 years that support your chosen topic. All assignments must be in Microsoft Word format, double-spaced, using a Times New Roman 12-point font. Your paper will automatically be evaluated by Turnitin, which will assess your paper for originality and detect plagiarism. To minimize high originality scores, you are to paraphrase and cite as opposed to using direct quotes. High originality scores are typically indicative of plagiarism. If you must quote, do so sparingly and limit the quote to a few words. If you quote, you must include the page/paragraph number of where the quote originated. You must submit an original paper. Recycled work from this class or any other class in whole or in part is prohibited and may be grounds for disciplinary action. If in doubt, contact your instructor. Plagiarism and the use of AI is a serious offense that may result in a failing grade. Again, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of properly citing and referencing in APA format – 7th Edition. All research must have been published within the past 5-10 years. You MUST avoid any form of plagiarism at all costs, which includes the use of “recycled” work from this or another course. All work MUST BE ORIGINAL.

Read: Docile Bodies, 135-69, especially 135-56. [on bodies] The Means of Correct Training, 170-77 and 184-94. [on disciplines] Panopticism, 195-228, especially 195-209. [on spaces]

    Prompt:

Two pages, computer typed, single spaced, 10 point font, Microsoft Word doc file bibliography/endnotes on 3rd page, 1 quote per reading.

In the last third of the twentieth century, Michel Foucault wielded incredible influence as part of the unfolding of postmodern intellectual inquiry. Working in a remarkable interdisciplinary mode (and with a legacy across the arts, humanities, and social sciences), he did this in part through 1) his theoretical alignment of power and knowledgehow power works to produce knowledge that reinforces power, and 2) his historical investigation of the archaeology of knowledge, i.e., the times, places, and ways certain systems of knowledge that we may now take for granted first emerged and were solidified. Part of that investigation involved a series of studies of concepts associated with specific building types (e.g., the hospital and the prison), each with its particular spatial arrangement that exemplified power. However, he also studied human practices (e.g., sexuality) and systems of thought (e.g., reason vs. unreason) that have their own distinctive institutionalization. For our study of the socio-spatial dimensions of Foucaults thought and citing supporting or pertinent passages from the assigned texts by him and Shabazz, consider a spatial context or condition in which you have felt under surveillance or disciplined as that surveillance or discipline operated in and through space, exposing you to scrutiny and conditioning your behavior. In the first half of the essay, frame your personal experience in Foucaults terms and provide a thick description of the social and spatial circumstances of that experience. Analyze the details. Who claimed the power of surveillance and discipline? To what ends? What was the practice that was being scrutinized? Where did it take place and what was its spatial condition? Did the surveillance/discipline make you act differently or even think differently about yourself and your actions in space? Then in the second half of the essay, consider how that discipline (as a means of training) may have resulted in the construction of disciplinary knowledge (like that in education, medicine, sport, the performing arts, etc.) through record keeping, representation, analysis and assessment, rankings, archives, etc. What kind of knowledge was thus constructed? Finally, assess your internationalization of discipline as self-discipline, if in fact you think that is what happened. How can that be understood as positive and/or negative? How is it possible to work creatively with/against the regime of power/knowledge in its social and spatial manifestations? How might you apply these strategies to ethical and effective design?
