INCLUDE THE RIGHT SOURCES I GAVE YOU NOT RANDOM ONES

    Description

Henry Purcell and his opera, Dido and Aeneas, remain as particular sources of pride for the British people. This essay on a website managed by the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) gives some idea of the enthusiasm that the British continue to feel for this, their earliest opera. Then, listen to the three different recordings of the famous aria “When I am laid in earth” that are linked below.

    • Respond to the following prompts.

Answer the prompts in your own words. Use specific examples from the audio and your personal experience. (Full credit requires references to the actual audio content.)

    1. How would you describe Emma Kirkby’s vocal style and tone? How did the Baroque period instruments (like the harpsichord or strings) affect the atmosphere? Did the historical performance style help you feel more connected to the music, or less?
    2. What stood out most to you about Jessye Norman’s performance? Did her vocal power and phrasing enhance the emotional impact of Dido’s grief and despair? Why or why not? How did the full orchestral sound change the impact of the aria?
    3. How did the modern setting of Alison Moyet’s version affect your experience of the piece? Did the style, instrumentation, or tempo change how you understood Didos character or emotions? This version may feel like a departure from what you would think of as “classical music”did this version feel like a respectful reinterpretation, a departure, or something else? Explain your perspective.
    4. Which version had the strongest emotional impact on you, and why? Which version felt the most musically interesting or beautiful? If you had to recommend one version to someone new to opera, which would you choose and what would you say about it?

    Remember:

All answers should be written in proper formal style as an essay. This means that responses should be written in complete sentences with no spelling or grammatical errors, no vernacular speech or contractions, and all sources must be cited. Try to expand on your ideas as much as possible — one-word responses are never acceptable.

    Your submission must be:

    • Created in Microsoft Word and saved as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf file
    • Text should be black, double-spaced, and only in one font (preferably Times New Roman)
    • Your writing should be formatted as an essay and should NOT include the prompt questions or numbers

When saving and submitting your writing assignments, please use the following naming convention:

    Lastname Firstname WA3.docx

Please address all of the prompts in your response, but in paragraph form with appropriate transitions between ideas. Any response that requires your opinion on the music should be extensive; this is always the most important aspect of the assignment. Do not settle for a simple, surface-level answer; music is complex as are human feelings and reactions to it. You must work to articulate your ideas and opinions clearly and completely. You will not be graded based on your opinions — you will be graded based on your ability to communicate your ideas.

Do not cut and paste any of your answer from another source, including using AI. Plagiarism includes any copying of the words, structure, or ideas of another author without clear citation of that source. If you use the ideas of another author, put these in your own words but still cite the source of the information. Use quotations sparingly and only in support of your response; you cannot use a large-scale quotation and consider this the entire response.

    Reminders:

    • All work for this course should be written in complete sentences with proper grammar and spelling. Use the spellcheck tool on your word processor.
    • Avoid accusations of plagiarism by citing every idea presented that is not your own using MLA style.
    • If you use a direct quote from a source, you must put this in quotation marks and cite the source at the end of the sentence. Use quotes sparingly and on a small scale; you should not quote entire paragraphs.
    • All work for this course must be done independently; there should be no group collaboration except through sharing ideas on the discussion boards. Assignment submissions must be original work.

Crime Mapping in Practice: Map Interpretation & Analyst Evaluation

Crime maps are one of the most visible products of crime analysis, but their value depends on design, clarity, data selection, and purpose. This assignment asks you to evaluate a crime map not just for what it shows, but for how effectively it communicates information.

    Select ONE Map

From the Product Bank (Canvas Files Maps), select one map to analyze. (see attachment)

    Identify Map Characteristics

Using bullet points, provide the following information:

    • Type of map
    • (e.g., single symbol, graduated symbols, choropleth, density/heat map)
    • Geographic area represented
    • (e.g., city, neighborhood, police beat, state)
    • Data displayed on the map
    • (e.g., crime incidents, traffic crashes, calls for service)
    • Time period of the data
    • (List specific dates or date ranges shown)
    • Creator of the map
    • (Agency and individual analyst, if listed)

    Analyst Evaluation

Write a short, well-structured paragraph (or use numbered responses) addressing the following:

    1. Purpose of the Map
    • What do you believe the map was designed to communicate or support?
    • Who is the likely audience (patrol, command staff, public, investigators)?
    1. Effectiveness
    • Does the map appear to successfully serve its intended purpose? Why or why not?
    1. Clarity and Usefulness
    • Is the map informative and easy to interpret?
    • Are key elements (legend, title, scale, symbols) clear and appropriate?
    1. Logic and Sense-Making
    • Does the map make sense given the data and geographic area?
    • Are there any aspects that could confuse or mislead the viewer?

    Daily Health Checks-Your Experiences

    Discussion Time!

After reading the chapter and viewing the DAILY HEALTH CHECK videos, let’s share your own experiences here.

If you are working in a school setting, share your experiences.

If you are not working in a classroom, think about the procedures at your

own child’s school or your own experiences as a student.

    1. Why is it important to send sick children home instead of letting them

stay in the classroom? Share 3 different reasons.

    1. Share how the daily health check works, from your own experience.

Let us know if this is in your own classroom, or from other experiences

you have had. What does the teacher do or ask the parents during the

    daily health check?

    1. If you volunteer in a classroom, have you noticed teachers doing

daily health checks? (It is possible to conduct a daily health check

very casually, without it being obvious.) If you are volunteering or a

TA, you should ask the teachers about the health check and what they do.

    1. Have you seen teachers send a child home after noticing a health

issue at check in time? If so, how did the parent seem to feel about being

asked to take the child home?

    1. How can we make sure parents will not be surprised if they are

asked to take their child home after symptoms are noticed at the

health check? What should teachers and Directors do to prepare them?

  • Culturally competent care in dental hygiene

Dental hygienists increasingly care for patients from culturally diverse backgrounds and with varying social, religious, and health-related needs. Providing effective and ethical oral health care requires more than clinical skill, it requires cultural competence, self-awareness, and social responsibility. In at least 500 words, discuss how a dental hygienist can provide culturally competent care to a patient from a diverse population. In your essay, be sure the address the following: Explain the concepts of health equity, health disparities, and social determinants of health, and how they may influence a patient’s oral health outcomes. Discuss the role and social responsibility of the dental hygienist in promoting access to care and health promotion for underserved or vulnerable populations. Analyze how biases, stereotypes, and assumptions can affect provider-patient interactions and clinical decision making, Describe specific culturally competent communication strategies that can be used to improve cross-cultural dental practice. Use course terminology and concepts to support your discussion. You may draw on real-world examples, clinical experiences, or hypothetical patient scenarios to illustrate your points. AI Policy: All usage of AI must be properly cited in the text of the paper, listed as a reference, and include a footnote at the end of the document. All papers will be run through an AI detection software program. Any paper that has more than 30% AI usage will be re-assigned to be written again and/or may receive a ZERO. Please ensure you follow the grading rubric and follow the expectations of writing outlined below. Expectations of writing: Students are expected to write at a Bachelor’s of Science college level. The following components should be displayed in the students writing ability: Writing clearly and concisely Before beginning to write, students should order thoughts logically, both at the paragraph and at the sentence levels. In scientific writing, sound organizational structure is the key to clear, precise and logical communication. The prime objective of scientific reporting is clear communication. Students can achieve this by presenting ideas in an orderly manner and by expressing themselves smoothly and precisely. Establishing a tone that conveys the essential points of the assignment in an interesting manner will engage readers and communicate ideas more effectively. Readers will better understand student ideas if there is an aim for continuity in words, concepts and thematic development from the opening statement to the conclusion. Grammar and usage Incorrect grammar and careless construction of sentences distract the reader, introduce ambiguity and generally obstruct communication. For more information and to ensure proper usage of verbs, pronouns, nouns, adjectives and adverbs, no misplacing modifiers, using relative pronouns and subordinate conjunctions correctly, and proper usage of parallel construction, students ae encouraged to reference the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. Mechanics of style Punctuation- Punctuation establishes the cadence of a sentence, telling the reader where to pause (comma, semicolon, and colon) stop (period and question mark) or make a detour (dash, parentheses, and brackets). Punctuation of a sentence usually denotes a pause in thought; different kinds of punctuation indicate different kinds and lengths of pauses. (APA, 2019) Spelling- Students should conform to standard American English as exemplified in Merriam-Websters Collegiate Dictionary. Citing Sources All sources must be cited to avoid plagiarism. Plagiarism- Plagiarism is when authors present the work of another as if it were their own work. Whether paraphrasing, quoting an author directly, or describing an idea that influenced a student’s work, students must cite the source. References in APA publications are cited in text with an author-date citation system and are listed alphabetically in the reference list. This style of citation briefly identifies the source for readers and enables them to locate the source information in the alphabetical reference list at the end of the case study paper. Each reference cited in text must appear in the reference list and each entry in the reference list must be cited in text. Students must make certain that each source referenced appears in both places and that the text citation and reference list entry are identical in spelling of author names and year. (APA, 2019).

  • Endometriosis and menstrual health

Respond to both posts below, including in-text citations and reference list at the end, least 1 reference per post to enhance the original post and share new information. _______________________________________________________________ Reply to Jeni, During Chapter 2: Periods, Hazard writes, she is bleeding, but privately; she smiles, but silently. This sentence really resonated with me as a woman with endometriosis since it causes so much pain, yet you must act like everything is fine. Like Hazard describes, periods tend to be a shameful thing that women must hide even though they can be debilitating for some people. Its hard to believe that its not general knowledge that menstrual blood is something that could be a potential resource for helping with womens health issues, rather than to be ashamed of. I did not know that it was more than just blood and had never even thought about exactly what it consisted of before. When I read about the ROSE concept that Dr. Christine Martinez runs, I thought it was so fascinating and intuitive. It could help so many women who have endometriosis, since the current methods for diagnosing it are invasive. It would be nice for it to not take many years to get a diagnosis or not have to have surgery. Living in a world full of patriarchy, it is unsurprising that the sperm gets the credit for making a baby, when in reality the uterus also plays an active role in fertilization. _______________________________________________________________Reply to Kara Hi Jeni, I’m sorry you’ve had to suffer in silence with endometriosis. Hopefully, the rise in awareness, especially with more women talking about their experiences on social media, will allow you and others to feel more comfortable being outspoken about the pain you’re experiencing. Anyways, I also found the ROSE study very interesting, and I found an article about a test created by Next-Gen Tech that looks like and works as simply as a pregnancy test to detect endometriosis using menstrual effluent. Here is the article if that interests you: to an external site. And here is the super technical study behind how they created the test: to an external site.
