    Directions:

Identify a public health problem and identify how it should be addressed. Public

health problems are obesity, gun control, racism, environmental concerns (clean water, air

quality) and more. If you have a topic and are considered it is not public health, email the

    professor.

The purpose of a case study is to walk the reader through a situation where a problem

is present, background information is provided and a description of the solution given, along

with how it was derived. A good case study doesnt tell the readers what to think. It guides the

reader through the thought process used to create the final conclusion.

    I.

Identify and Describe the public health problem

    A. Students are required to clearly identify and describe the public health

    problem.

    B. Use research (including public health statistics and other facts) to support

    that it is a problem.

    C. Give background to the problem, identify how the problem became a problem.

For example, if addressing child obesity one may examine the role of school lunches,

lack of healthy food options in lower income and urban areas, and a decrease in physical

activity among children. All are considered factors of the public health problem and

therefore should be identified and addressed as the background that lead to childhood

obesity. All should be supported with research and facts.

    II.

    Identify and Describe the Solutions

    A.

This section discusses the solution and the basis for why this is being proposed as

the solution. Facts and research will also be used here but there should be

subjective thinking as well: Taking into account A, B, and C, the suggested

    solution is X.

    B.

Briefly present the key elements used to derive the solution and be clear about the

    goal of the solution.

    i.

What are the expected outcomes of this solution, will it slow down,

    reduce, or eliminate the problem?

    ii.

How will this solution be implemented? Is there public support for

this type of solution? Determine and discuss specific strategies for

accomplishing the proposed solution. Recommend further action to

resolve some of the issues. What should be done and who should do

it. IF a solution is in place, then summarize how well the solution is

working. Evaluation of what is working and what is not working

1.Article- Health Disparities: Creating Health Care Equity for Minorities

    Date: January 28, 2026

    Publisher: United Way NCA

This article discusses the major and unequal difference between the type, quality, and distribution of health care to minority individuals such as people who fall under the ALICE category of socioeconomic status. The key differences between what is accessible to certain poverty and ethnic groups for health care is unforgivingly established with very clear data showing which groups are more likely to receive speedy and quality healthcare. One example shown was for mental health counseling rates, Hispanic/Latino individuals received it at a rate of 7.9%, Black individuals received it at a rate of 8.9% while White individuals received 12.6%. Besides racial discrimination in health care disparities, there was also the effect of how much income individuals would make and the quality or coverage in health care they would receive. Low-income families were met with low quality health care facilities as well as finding it significantly harder to obtain good if any health coverage from insurance. This all relates to what we learned in this week’s chapters such as moral exclusion, what should humanely be accessible in terms of healthcare for everyone and what your status in society is correlates in an unfair way for many individuals who have never known a different way of life than what they were born into which should not be the case. As for mediation, these individuals while unfairly being restricted quality access for their health do have means in which to obtain it through the help of organizations who gather in order to provide what is needed for a person’s everyday life even if they don’t directly correlate to these health institutions.

This topic helped me to understand just how wide of a range these health discrepancies go for many communities. I was able to understand and correlate what we learned in the chapters we read to this subject pretty easily just because of how hand in hand these concepts cross together. What should be morally obligated to people clearly isn’t, but the efforts people make to mediate the issue as to help those in need is very clearly shown. This displays he idea of the mediator always being present in various forms. As for what this author should look into next for this topic, I believe if they connected with the mentioned ALICE indivduals to see exactly how they feel with this treatment as well as who helps to mediate the issue for them, would be very informative.

2.Title: “What is Reactive Abuse?” by Alex Bachert MPH July 3, 2024 for charliehealth.com

Synopsis: The article explores the manipulation and blame-shifting that happens all-too-often within abusive relationships. It all comes down to a power struggle, if one party holds more power over the other, they have the moral obligation to use that power for good and support . Too often men and women find themselves in positions within their relationships that are toxic and aggressive, and instead of communicating through the difficulties and hardships. The discipline and self control/value/ play such a large role in relationships that could possibly become toxic. This relates to both topics from this week, the topics of injustice and mediation. Injustice is shown in toxic relationships due to one party being controlled and reacting to that sense of being smothered. Mediation comes into plawyonce the courts are involved and want to finally work out the final aspects of the relationship.

Key Takeaway: Use the grey rock method and do not react in this kind of situation. I’ve learned in my life that if you ignore or even forgive your abuser, it takes all the power away like a vacuum.

  • Language and language policy analysis

For this week, we will be focusing on analyzing an article written by Dennis Baron. You can find the article in the Modules section of our course site. It is important that you read the article carefully, as it will serve as the foundation for this weeks assignment. Along with the article, you will find a worksheet with a series of questions designed to guide your understanding and analysis. Your task is to respond to each question with a minimum of four complete sentences. Be sure to use specific references from the article to support your answers and aim to demonstrate a clear understanding of the authors main arguments, tone, and use of evidence. Once you have completed your responses, please submit your work in the Assignments section by the due date listed. Late submissions may affect your grade, so make sure to manage your time accordingly. To help you better understand the material, I have also provided a PowerPoint presentation with supplemental information. This presentation covers key concepts, background information on the author, and tips for analyzing nonfiction texts. I highly recommend reviewing it before you begin the worksheet, as it will provide context and help clarify some of the more complex points in the article. If you have any questions or need clarification as you work through the assignment, feel free to reach out or post in the discussion forum. I’m looking forward to seeing your insights and thoughtful responses!
  • SOC 213 WRITING ASSIGNMENT 4 #1

    QUESTION:

One example in this chapter suggested that political orientations cause attitudes toward legalizing marijuana. Can you make an argument that the time order is just the opposite of what was assumed?

  • Essay 3

Prepare a 2-3 page, APA-style essay based on your readings from Chapter 34 (Mediation) in which you recount a time that you served as a third-party mediator (whether it be in an official/professional capacity, such as a workplace dispute, or even just helping two friends mitigate a strong disagreement). Now, reference the 12 stages of Mediation (if you are using the 3rd edition of the text, it is figure 34.1 on pages 826-827). Address each of the 12 stages in your paper, illustrating how your mediation might fit into the stages.

NOTE: While you should be able to describe at least one item from each stage relevant to your scenario, it is unlikely (and not expected) that you comment on every facet of every stage.
