  • Rhetorical Analysis of ‘Becoming Disabled’ by Rosemarie Garl…

Essay 1 Instructions Essay 1 is a Rhetorical Analysis of the text that you chose to be your Reading #1. As long as you address Logos, Ethos, Pathos, Audience, and Purpose, and you meet the Formatting and Requirements, the structure itself can be rather flexible. If you would like to address other rhetorical elements (e.g. exigence, kairos, doxa, etc.), you’ll need to tie them to Logos/Ethos/Pathos (e.g. exigence ties in to pathos in that establishing urgency can make the audience feel more anxious about solving the problem sooner than later). Formatting and Requirements Your essay should be at least 1000 words (not including Works Cited) Include your name, my name, class and date in the upper left corner of the 1st page Clearly put which essay you are addressing in the title of your paper Format your essay according to MLA guidelines and the template: to an external site. It should have an Intro section (with a thesis at the end of the Intro), Body paragraphs (no required number) that provide textual evidence to support the thesis, and a Conclusion section (roughly a paragraph). Include a Works Cited page listing all sources you used or consulted, and there should be a Word Count after the Conclusion (NOTE: This essay SHOULD follow this sample more closely than SWA2 did – i.e. it should have an Intro Paragraph with the bolded Thesis at the end, several Body Paragraphs, a Conclusion Paragraph, Word Count, and Works Cited). SAMPLE STRUCTURE (i.e. NOT REQUIRED) Introduction: Topic and Argument For the introduction, give us a (brief!) overview of the topic of the essay and its importance. Then move to general statements about the effectiveness of rhetoric in the essay. End the introduction with a bolded thesis statement that clearly states not only THAT the essay used rhetorical elements, but HOW it did and WHY it is (or isn’t) effective. Part (or Paragraph) 1: Analyze the use of Logos, Ethos, and Pathos in Reading #1. How does the essay appeal to reason, credibility, and emotion to support the argument? Identify specific examples of evidence, statistics, and anecdotes used to appeal to the reader’s logic, trust in the author, and emotional response. To explore these elements please examine the writing style and tone. Question to promote critical thinking: How does the author use language (diction) and tone to establish his position and connect with the audience? Please try to discuss the impact of stylistic choices on the overall persuasiveness of the essay. Part (or Paragraph) 2: Analyze Audience in Reading #1. It is also important to pay attention to the author’s awareness of their target audience(s). How do they tailor their message to resonate with the intended readership? Consider whether the author effectively anticipates and addresses the concerns or perspectives of their audience. Examine how they envision their essay influencing the reader’s perspective or behavior. Question to promote critical thinking: Do they seek to inspire action, provoke thought, or foster a particular emotional response? Discuss any strategies used by the author to make their purpose clear and compelling to the reader. How do they align their purpose with the urgency of the issue at hand? Part (or Paragraph) 3: Analyze Purpose in Reading #1. Investigate the author’s overarching purpose in writing this essay. Question to promote critical thinking: What is the author’s primary goal or intention? Analyze whether the author aims to inform, persuade, entertain, or provoke a specific response from the audience. How does this purpose shape the rhetorical choices made throughout the essay? Conclusion Wrapping up the essay, ensure to re-state the thesis statement, and to summarize the key rhetorical strategies employed by the author used in conveying their message. Please then evaluate the overall effectiveness of these strategies in persuading the reader regarding the purpose of the essay.

Part 1: Analyzing Instructional Models and Strategies

For each evidence-based instructional model/strategy include the following information:

    • A brief description of the model/strategy.
    • An example of how you would implement the model/strategy into your classroom instruction.

In addition to the chart, identify one learning theory and in 100-150 words explain how an instruction model or strategy discussed in the chart supports the theory.

Note: You may refer to the Cognitive Theorists and Theories interactive media piece.

    Part 2: Application

Using the ELA and math standard you chose in Topic 2, provide the following information for each standard:

    • Standard: The full standard verbiage and grade level.
    • Learning Objective: Use the same learning objectives chosen in the Topic 4 Differentiation Bank assignment.
    • Below and Above Grade Level Standards: Identify the below grade level standard that can be reviewed as prior knowledge and the above grade level standard that your standard works towards and can be used to extend students learning.
    • Activity Explanation: Identify an evidenced-based instructional model/strategy from Part 1 to represent the material being learned and explain an activity that implements the model/strategy to support students in mastering the learning objective.
    • Rationale of Alignment: Explain how the activity supports the standard and aligned learning objective.
    • Differentiation: Explain how the activity can be differentiated for students performing below and above grade level.

Support your template with a minimum of two scholarly resources.

While APA Style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

Third Grade RL.3: Describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events.

Third Grade NBT.A.1: Use place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100.

  • Inflation and Consumer Spending Patterns

Inflation touches every corner of daily life, influencing how people spend on essentials like groceries and rent as well as choices in travel and luxury. This project gives you the chance to work with real-world style data, uncovering patterns in spending shifts across categories. By using Excel to calculate averages, variability, and build visualizations, youll transform raw numbers into insights that reveal how inflation pressures shape both consumers and business strategy. Project Resources P1-1 Measures of Central Tendency.html P1-2 Measures of Central Tendency Business and Healthcare Applications, Best Practices, and Misuses.html P1-3 Measures of Variability.html P1-4 Measures of Variability Business and Healthcare Applications, Best Practices, and Misuses.html P1-5 Calculating Central Tendency and Variability in Excel Methods and Interpretation.html P1-6 Creating Charts in Excel Line Charts for Trends and Boxplots for Variability.html P1-7 Best Practices for Interpreting Statistical Data and Excel Charts.html P1-8 Using Statistical Findings for Business Decisions During Inflation.html Copy the data set provided into Excel. Arrange it with months in rows and spending categories in columns. Step 2: Calculate Measures of Central Tendency In Excel, use formulas for each category: Mean (Average): =AVERAGE(B2:B13) Median: =MEDIAN(B2:B13) Mode: =MODE.SNGL(B2:B13) (Adjust column letters depending on category.) Step 3: Calculate Measures of Variability Range: =MAX(B2:B13)-MIN(B2:B13) Variance: =VAR.S(B2:B13) Standard Deviation: =STDEV.S(B2:B13) Step 4: Create a Summary Table Build a table that shows mean, median, mode, range, variance, and standard deviation for each spending category. This will be pasted into Word. Step 5: Interpret the Results (in Word) Which category shows the highest average change? Which category shows the most variability in consumer spending? Step 6: Create Charts Line Chart Trends Over Time Highlight the entire dataset (Months + Categories). Go to Insert Line Chart Line with Markers. This will show monthly percentage changes for each variable. Title the chart: Monthly Changes in Consumer Spending and Inflation (%). Interpretation Tip: Identify which categories trend upward or downward during the 12-month period. This will be pasted into Word. Boxplot Variability Across Categories Copy the data for each category into separate columns (as already structured). Select the entire data range. Go to Insert Statistical Chart Box & Whisker. Title the chart: Spending Variability by Category and Inflation. Interpretation Tip: Use the boxplot to discuss spread (interquartile range), outliers, and which categories show the widest variability. This will be pasted into Word. Step 7: Visual Analysis in Interpretation (in Word) Explain how the line chart reveals overall spending trends. Use the boxplot to support claims about which categories are most volatile. • HLSC Discussion Week 3

Greenberg Chapter 2 describes the body’s physiological responses to stress. As we’ve discussed, stress is an ever-present feature in our lives that impacts us across our lifespan. Therefore, it’s not surprising that we have developed many sayings that describe our physiological responses to stress (e.g., “I was so nervous that I had butterflies in my stomach!”).

For this discussion, find a saying related to stress that has physiological origins.

    In your discussion group:

    • Share the saying you found.
    • Explain how the saying relates to our physiological responses to stress utilizing content from Greenberg Chapter 2.
    • In order to receive full credit, please provide a detailed description of the physiological response that is related to the saying. Again, use Chapter 2 content to describe the physiological response.
