  • 3.1 Content Knowledge Challenge

Chapter Three provides our first in depth encounter with learning. It also provides us with a glimpse of how innate behaviors can be influenced by learning which is an excellent example of the interaction of ontogeny and phylogeny. We will revisit this interaction in the future. The chapter begins with a discussion and examples of innate responses including fixed action patterns, modal action patterns and reaction chains. We then encounter the reflex, also a phylogenetic behavior in the respondent response class. The reflex, we soon see is a powerful example of phylogenetic behavior that can be modified or impacted, through processes of learning (aka ontogenetic adaptation). Specific examples of this include habituation and respondent conditioning. You read about both in chapter 3. Respondent conditioning is a powerful learning process that results in the acquisition of a respondent — not a reflex but a response in the same class as the reflex.

For your third CKC we will focus on respondent behavior and its acquisition and extinction. To complete this challenge, provide answers to the following: (1) How do you know when you are dealing with a respondent that is acquired (learned or conditioned) or reflexive (innate)? Answer this portion of the question in 70 words or less. (2). What is respondent extinction? Answer this portion of the question in 35 words or less. (3) What does spontaneous recovery tell us about an extinguished respondent? Answer this portion of the question in 20 words or less.

Your response to this challenge should be formal. It should be well written and carefully organized to address each portion of the challenge. You are free to use your text and other resources but make sure you cite and reference all sources used. You should focus on paraphrasing rather than quoting from sources. Your document should be saved as a doc, docx or pdf file. It should adhere to the APA 6th edition editorial style. If you need assistance with APA editorial style take the link Writing Styles Guide on the left (toward the bottom) which will land you on the Purdue OWL site. This challenge has strict word limits these are not minimum limits but maximum limits. Focus on being direct and concise.

  • Target Heart Rate and Exercise Intensity

Instructions Using Determining Your Target Heart Rate Lab , follow the instructions below:

Review Heart Rate and Exercise Intensity Concepts Review course materials related to cardiovascular fitness, heart rate, and exercise intensity before beginning the lab.

Calculate Maximum Heart Rate (MHR) Use the standard formula: MHR=220-22 Determine Target Heart Rate Zone Calculate your 5085% target heart rate zone for aerobic training: Lower end = 50% of MHR Upper end = 85% of MHR Record your calculations clearly.

Apply to Tactical Activities Identify 23 occupational tasks (e.g., running in full gear, climbing stairs, carrying equipment) and indicate where your heart rate might fall within your target zone during these activities.

Reflection Questions Answer all prompts using complete sentences, focusing on: How monitoring heart rate helps prevent overtraining or injury How cardiovascular readiness supports operational performance How target heart rate monitoring can be incorporated into weekly training

  • Week 4

What is meant by “state interposition and nullification”? What do you think of these doctrines? Historically, they were used to oppose the obviously-unconstitutional Alien & Sedition Acts but also, decades later, to oppose racial desegration in the Jim Crow south. Suppose that the federal government enacts a new law that is clearly unconstitutional do the states have the power to stand against it? Should they?

    Annotated Bibliography Assignment Instructions

This weeks assignment requires that students complete an annotated bibliography. Before you begin the assignment, make sure that you:

    • Read through these instructions carefully.
    • Go through the PowerPoint Presentation of an Annotated Bibliography provided in the assignment module.
    • Look at the Student Example of an Annotated Bibliography provided in the assignment module.

An annotated bibliography is a series of entries in which students summarize and evaluate the sources they will use for their research project. This process has three steps:

    1. Cite the source properly using MLA Style, from the MLA Handbook, 9th edition. We worked on citing sources extensively in the previous course, CDST 4110, Research Invention. Make sure you look at previous assignments for help with citing.
    2. Summarize the book, article, or web article in a few sentences. This summary must include the thesis of the source and other main points. This must be in your own words, not taken from the source or any other source in any way.
    3. Evaluate the book, article, or web article in a few sentences. The evaluation will be in your own words. Evaluating a source demonstrates that you understand the books point. Think about the source and the validity of the conclusions.

    For this assignment, you MUST:

    • Compose and upload the assignment in Word. Do not upload your assignment as a PDF. I use track changes and need to comment on your assignment.
    • Correctly cite a minimum of ten (10) sources:
    • Four (4) of the sources must be books
    • Four (4) of the sources must be scholarly journal articles
    • Two (2) of the sources can be scholarly websites
    • Students ARE allowed to use sources from the Source Assignments completed in CDST 4110, Research Invention. Please just make sure that you look over the comments on these previous assignments and make sure to make any necessary corrections to source citations.
    • Cite the source properly using MLA Style according to the MLA Handbook,

    9th edition.

    • Annotate the source with a minimum of five (5) sentences and no more than

seven (7) sentences. Remember, annotations must be written in your

own words and not copied from another source or generated with AI software.

    • Entries must be in alphabetical order according to the authors last name or the first letter in the entry.
    • Double-space the entire document.
    • Insert page numbers into this assignment.
    • Give the title of your senior capstone paper.

A small team of six employees at the company Solaya is responsible for finishing the design of a new smartphone before it goes into production. The team includes members from engineering, design, and marketing. As the deadline approaches, disagreements increase over which features should be included in the final version of the phone. Some team members strongly push for advanced features, while others argue for a simpler design to avoid delays and cost increases.

The team is struggling to reach an agreement, and progress on the final decision has slowed. The team leader must now decide whether and how to intervene.
