    Assignment Overview

This lab represents our third exploration of our personal definitions of heroism. You began with Lab Exercise #1 – Defining Heroism #1, in which you developed an initial, personal definition of heroism. Following that, you refined your definition as part of Lab Exercise #7 – Defining Heroism #2. In this lab, you’ll return to those definitions to consider how your understanding has evolved further and how the various materials and exercises we’ve covered in this class have helped shape that definition.

You will use your definition from this lab as part of your Initial Post for Discussion #5 – Definitions of Heroism and Vision.

    Assignment Directions

For this activity, please answer the following questions in a submission of 200-300 words.

What was your definition of heroism from Lab Exercise #7 – Defining Heroism #2? Summarize your definition of heroism from that lab in 1-2 sentences. This is once again a good opportunity to practice the skills we reviewed in Lab Exercise #6 – Summaries!

Think about your definition from Lab Exercise #7 and the work you’ve done since then. Based on the thinking and reading you’ve done since Lab Exercise #7, what parts of your definition of heroism remain the same? What parts have changed?

Include in your responses to the above questions a discussion exploring how at least one of the materials we’ve covered in this class influenced your definition. For this part, you can use a reading, including non-fiction or fictional texts. Refer to ENGL 1B Reading Calendar for a reminder of the texts we’ve read so far. You can also reference a class video or discussion forum or a particular assignment. The goal of this portion is simply to encourage you to explore how your work and reading in this class has influenced your definition.

In Lab Exercises #1 and #7, you explored an example of someone who could be seen as a hero. Do you still see that person as a hero or has your view changed?

Finally, do you have any new questions about heroism or ideas you’re looking forward to exploring more?
