Now that youve explored a range of current issues in healthcare, its time to articulate your own perspective on a topic that is meaningful to your professional practice. This assignment invites you to write a journal-style editorial that presents a clear, evidence-informed position on a timely issue in nursing or healthcare.

Editorials are concise, persuasive pieces that aim to influence opinions through thoughtful analysis and factual support. While they may reflect a strong viewpoint, they should remain respectful, well-reasoned, and grounded in credible evidence. As demonstrated in the Kennedy example, editorials often address complex topics where even experts may disagreeyour goal is to contribute meaningfully to that dialogue.

Instructions

1. Choose a Current Issue
   Select a healthcare or nursing-related issue that is relevant to your practice or area of interest. The topic should be timely, meaningful, and open to discussion or debate.
2. Write Your Editorial
   • Length: No more than2 double-spaced pages
   • Structure: Include a clearintroduction, a well-developedbody, and a conciseconclusion
   • Tone: Persuasive yet professional, with a clear position supported by evidence
   • Citations: Use APA formatto cite any facts, statistics, or references
3. Submission & Evaluation
   • Submit your editorial by the due date listed in the course schedule
   • Your work will be evaluated using theWritten Assignment Rubric, which assesses clarity, organization, evidence use, and writing quality

In this assignment you will investigate commonly prescribed antidepressant/ antianxiety medications and the related pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, including the associated indications, side effects, interactions, contraindications, efficacy and safety, monitoring parameters, and evidence-based practice interventions for patients across the lifespan.

• Access the Unit 3 template and ensure you complete your name and the required information. Use the headers in the template provided.
• Begin with an introductory paragraph on general considerations related to safe antidepressant and antianxiety agent prescribing.
• Next include content regarding prescribing psychotropic drugs across the lifespan; pediatric, adult and older adult.
• Address cardiovascular function consideration.
• Next include content on medication management and monitoring.
• Provide 4-5 sentences per section.
• Then complete the table component within the template. You must list one specific drug in each class and place the name of the drug under the class.
• Refer to your text and readings to help you choose a drug from the class. Include 2-4 items/ key points per section based on your literature search.
• The last section of the table should have content on the use of the drug regarding lifespan considerations including dose and dose considerations.
• The source you use must support your stance on evidence based interventions.
• Refer to the required reading, resources and internet research to help you.
• The template sections will expand as you add content. Use key words with bulleted content or brief descriptions. Do not paste large content.
• You will have addressed 5 medications; one from each listed classification.
• You may add the citation under the drug names. Include references on your reference page.
• Keep the headings within the essay portion bolded. Polish and keep the template and the table neat. Be sure the font is Ariel 10 within the table. It should be readable, meaningful, organized and not wordy.
• Before finalizing your work, you should:
  • Read the directions carefully
  • Consult the grading rubric and review your completed work to make sure you have included everything necessary
  • Utilize spelling and grammar checks to minimize errors.
