  • Developing and presenting a main point/theory in an academic…

There are two sample paper and one assignment questions. Have fun, be bold! I recommend that you develop a structure for your paper that best demonstrates what you have to share. If this sort of paper is a new experience for you, here is some possible advice, in terms of structure, that you can consider. These are pieces of advice, not rules. The main agenda in this paper is to decide what is at the foundation of your thinking/theory in this paper and then clearly explore and explain that point. Your first step is to think about what it is you want to say in response to the question (as a whole). Once you have discovered what you want to state, you can consider this your main point/theory. Your paper is going to be about presenting this main point/theory and reflecting on it. To structure your paper, you may want to try this approach. Find three questions that you will need to consider in presenting your main thrust. These three questions or sections can act as the body of your essay (your introduction is about introducing what your main point/theory). While writing each individual section be careful not to be side-tracked or distracted. Every step of the way, you should be asking how does this connect to the whole of my paper? Have I explained this well? Have I wondered about why I think this? Have I thought about whether I am wrong? What is underneath my thinking? Is it what I presume, why do I think it is true? Sometimes when you are working off a structure like this, the questions/ideas change. You become aware as you are writing that a different question/idea is more relevant. You should trust and welcome this happening.
