For this week’s reading response, answer two questions fully and completely (everyone will answer question 1, and then you may choose to answer question 2 or 3). To fully answer the question, tether your response to specific theory concepts from your chapter reading and use quotes from the chapter to help ground your argument (you do not need a full APA citation for quotes, just put which edition of the book you are using and a page number — (10th, p. 214), for example). Each question asks you to think in the specific (your personal experiences) and then tie it to the larger understanding of the theory. As we assess your responses, we will be looking to see that you understand the theory by being able to use the concepts from the theory to explain the specific examples.

Communication Privacy Management Theory (CPM)

Describe a specific instance where you shared private information with someone else, or where someone shared private information with you. In your description, address the following:

• What was your relationship with the other person?
• Did you feel you had a right to own or control that information?
• Was the other person a deliberate confidant (someone who sought the information) or a reluctant confidant (someone who didn’t necessarily want to hear it)?

Then discuss your experience using concepts from CPM. Here are some questions to guide your analysis:

• Once the information was shared, how did the personal privacy boundary morph into a collective boundary? Did the person you told become a shareholder (fully invested in your rules) or a stakeholder?
• Privacy Rules: Which of the five factorsculture, gender, motivation, context, or risk/benefit ratioplayed the largest role in your decision to reveal or conceal the information?
• Boundary Turbulence: Did any boundary turbulence occur? For example, was there an intentional breach, a confidentiality dilemma, or perhaps a simple mistake where the secret “slipped out”? If no turbulence occurred, explain what mutual privacy rules you negotiated to keep the boundary secure.

Social Exchange Theory (answer question 2 or 3)

2. Describe a recent decision you made to either enter a new social group (like a club or team) or leave a commitment. Using the minimax principle, identify at least three specific “rewards” and three “costs” you considered during your decision-making process. Discuss how the concepts from this theory are evident in this scenario. Based on your list, calculate the “outcome” of this interaction (Outcome = Rewards – Costs). Does a positive or negative number accurately reflect your level of attraction to that situation? Why or why not?

3. Think of a time when you were unhappy in a situation (a job, a relationship, or a living arrangement) but felt you could not leave, OR a time you were happy in a situation but chose to leave anyway. Use the concepts of Comparison Level (CL) and Comparison Level of Alternatives (CLalt) to explain your behavior.

PART 1

Purpose

The purpose of the reflective journal is for you to take time to reflect on your values, perceptions, and beliefs regarding the care of infants and toddlers.

Expectation

Please make sure that your journal entries are at least one paragraph long. Keep in mind that your responses will be evaluated based on their depth, rather than being right or wrong. Please share your thoughts, and feedback will be given in the form of questions to encourage deeper thinking. You can resubmit these assignments, and they should be at least 150 words long.

Assignment Composition Assignment

Exercise:

1. There are five compositions to make here. Make five 6″ square frames. Then make a composition with ONLY 5 shapes for each composition. Do NOT copy the examples. See the PDF. DO NOT label them inside the composition. Label them outside the composition, otherwise it becomes part of the art.
2. Also you can like or comment on others. Critique at least 2 finished designs. Use the critique guide to help you.

PART 3

SquareExploding Square

Part I: Positive and Negative Space is the objective.

Divide/cut up (in any direction with only 5-8 cuts- you will have 6-9 pieces) a 14 x 18″ solid black rectangle and move the pieces to be a successful positive/ negative (black and white) composition in a 18 x 24″ rectangle (that is the size of your big sketch pad). Cut the black rectangle into basic shapes, nothing too complicated. Cuts can be straight or curved.

Separate the black rectangle like a puzzle ( keep the pieces in the same position, like top and bottom- So you keep a rectangle based shape) Move them to create a strong positive/ negative design. You don’t have to stay on the edges. When you are certain of the design, paste it down.

White space between black shapes is very important. Concentrate on those. Notice the shapes they suggest.

Part II: After you create one and submit to the discussion, enter a critique of a fellow students work by hitting reply within 24 hours of the due date. Tell them what’s working in terms of balance, positive negative space and creativity. Examples: Is there too little or too much negative space or is it working well? Does it feel balanced or is it unbalanced? Which type of balance of the 4 types apply?

Background: What To Do and Why

Our semester long project is a presentation on a health topic you will choose. I provide a template for each week that you will need to work with. I want you set-up for success so we will practice making slides for fun first!

This week you will create a slideshow about yourself using the templates I offer you here. This will make sure you know how to use and share PowerPoint or Google Slides for the project.

This way, we can see if you are comfortable making slides and adding slides to a presentation. You will create slides each week adding each week together to create your Public Health Masterpiece Project!

You will create a 3 slide presentation using the headings and prompts in my templates. You can use my background or create your own slide. I want to make sure you can edit slides and take slides and add them to a presentation. You will be doing this each week so this is just fun practice.

1. Read my example presentation below
2. Open the template steps one (2 slides) and two (one slide)
3. Fill out the indicated areas on the templates. Not sure if you’re correct? Look at mine to compare! Make sure to leave the prompts in. Just remove the red instructions.
4. Join the three slides into a presentation. Why are we practicing this? Because each week you will be 2 -3 slides to the slides from the week prior, so you need to know how to add slides to an existing presentation.
5. Upload the final 3 slide PowerPoint Presentation or if using Google slides, upload AND share with me. (make sure to give me permission-details on how to in “Need Help”)
