You are required to identify and describe two specific experiences from your life that helped
shape your interest in becoming a teacher. These experiences may come from formal school
settings, non-formal learning environments (such as camps, museums, or community
programs), or work and volunteer experiences involving children or adolescents.
While the specific topic of each experience is your choice, you must clearly explain:
What happened (the setting, context, and key details of the experience), and
Why the experience was significant in shaping your beliefs about teaching and learning
and your decision to pursue teaching as a career.
Your paper should do more than tell a story. It should make explicit connections between your
experiences and what you now believe about education and teaching.
Organization and Expectations
Your essay should include:
An introduction that establishes the context of your experiences and clearly states the
purpose (thesis) of your paper
Body paragraphs that describe each experience in detail and explain its significance
A conclusion that briefly summarizes your reflections and connects back to your
