    SOC M162: Sociology of Gender

Dr. Kara Placek – UCLA Winter 2026

    WORKBOOK #2

    Name & Student ID # : __________________________________________________________

    Google Doc Link/URL: __________________________________________________________

Workbooks provide opportunities to relate course materials to media, experiences, and empirical works in a personal/reflective manner. Full credit responses meet length requirements, adhere to format/citation rules, and sufficiently address every component of each prompt while citing 2 concepts or quotes from assigned materials. A typical paragraph includes 5-8 sentences. These specifications express the minimum expected, but you will not be marked down for longer replies. Insights should be original, well thought out, and supported by materials. Responses can either be elaborated on in a short essay or as short answers which address each prompts components in bullet point format so long as each is at least 4 paragraphs long. Overall, Workbook #2 should come out to a total of 3 prompt responses, 12 paragraphs, and 6 cited concepts.

When citing materials, only note the author(s), publication year, and relevant page numbers or resource details in the parentheses (i.e. Grazian, 2009, p.222). To cite any concept from a lecture, guide, or slides just include my surname, course number, and the resource or date. Examples: Plaek, 2026, SOC M162 Week #6 Guide; Plaek, 2026, SOC M162 Lecture 2-23-2026; or Plaek, 2026, SOC M162 Hookup Culture Recorded Lecture). You can apply any relevant concept from any week’s materials but do not reuse the same concepts. For example, do not cite halo effects” more than once. You may cite two different concepts from the same resource hence, you can define/apply “emerging adulthood and “principle of least interest” for prompt #3 even though both are drawn from the same resource (Ansari & Klinenberg, 2015). Cited materials are limited to content from slides, guides, recorded lectures, live meetings, and mandatory resources (handouts, readings, videos). Do not cite resources that were supplemental or not assigned. No cover page or References section are necessary.

Every prompt must be initially and entirely written in a Google Doc. Make sure that our access is not restricted by clicking the blue share button (top right). In the “general access” dropdown either select anyone with the link or add me and your Grader in the “people with access” section. Do not delete any of your work until a final grade has been processed by the Registrar. Grade deductions and/or referrals to the Dean may result due to failure to complete all work in a Google Doc and/or if any portion appears to be AI generated, plagiarized, your own work submitted to another class, or insights that we already covered in class (thus not your own).

Type responses directly into a Google Doc that is single-spaced while using a standard font and size. Pages should be numbered and contain 1-inch margins. List your name, student ID #, and the shareable link/URL for your Google Doc at the top followed by your response to each prompt. Directions & rubrics must be removed. Please view the example prompt response in Canvas to see how workbooks and citations should be structured.

    TOTAL POSSIBLE = 25 points

    -0.75 points will be deducted for each missing or incorrectly applied citation;

-4.5 if there are no assigned course materials/concepts properly cited in all 3 prompts (6 total required)

Unless there are documented/exigent circumstances, 3% (-0.75) will be subtracted from the overall score for each day its late. ***No coursework will be accepted beyond Friday 3/20 @ 11:59pm***

-10% off any prompts total possible score for lengthy quotes, listing titles, or redundant content

-3 points from overall score for not adhering to format

  • EDU Homework

Read the following and answer the questions in complete paragraph responses.

    • Ensure your responses include terminology and theory (at least eight terms) from the course lectures, textbook, and module content. I’ll be specifically looking for terminology from the videos in the lectures. Include terms from Modules 5, 6, and 7 specifically, but you may also include terms from earlier modules. Highlight or bold terms from the course.
    • Discuss applicable dimensions (historical, biological, socio-cultural, psychological).

This is not a discussion board. You will submit your answers to each question by uploading them in a Word doc or a Google Doc.

Watch the video above. The video gives you important guidance about how to do this assignment.

Include at least 8 course terms and a discussion of the dimensions. Be sure to highlight the 8 course terms that you use, and also highlight the 2 or 3 or 4 dimensions that you use! You should have a minimum of 10 DIFFERENT terms highlighted.

You should write your case study analysis in paragraph form. The paper that you submit must contain a minimum of 200 – 250 words (approximately 1 page in length). Your analysis may be longer than 200 – 250 words in length (there is no cap).

If you include the questions in your analysis, the paper that you submit must contain a minimum of 320 – 370 words, as the 3 questions contain a total of 120 words. The questions DO NOT count toward the 200 – 250 word requirement.

5.6 The Scientific Revolution in Europe (https://ilearn.laccd.edu/courses/341231/pages/5-dot-6-scientific-revolution-in-europe)

Questions to Consider as You Read

In this discussion, you will only post notes, questions, and ideas not your final product. These questions are to help you think about what to notice as you read.

Your post in the second discussion for this week should answer the big question by developing comparisons.

    Big Question

How did power relationships affect the development and spread of religious and scientific ideas and practices in the early modern world? Use this question to guide you as you compare and contrast two stories that stood out to you from the textbook chapter.

    Sub-Questions

You may find it helpful to focus on one of the following questions, or you can develop your own comparison:

How did colonialism shape Christianity in Latin America? How did this differ from the Chinese relationship to Christianity?

How did the support or hostility of the state toward religion affect its development? A comparison between Sikhism and Wahhabi Islam may be relevant here.

What was the impact of religious and scientific change on power relationships within communities?

How did different religious traditions and scientists during the Enlightenment address the issue of women’s roles and rights?

How did conversion to different religions affect people differently? You may wish to consider the relationship of Islam to trade in your answer.

Step 2: Post Your Notes, Brainstorming, and Questions

As in Module 2, this discussion is a space to brainstorm, reflect, and ask questions.

    What do I turn in?

Format is flexible: consider trying one of the following:

Take a photo of handwritten notes

Upload or copy and paste digital notes

Write out your ideas or plans for the second discussion.

Ask questions about the material or about the upcoming assignment.

What is “enough” for this post?

Refer to at least three specific things you encountered in your textbook or on module pages 5.05.6, and include citations for each reference.

    Grading

This discussion is worth 20 points. You can find the full grading breakdown in the rubric. To receive full credit:

Use three specific examples from the course resources: the textbook chapter and pages in Module 5.

Cite your sources show where you found your information by including references to page numbers from the book or module pages after each sentence where you use a specific example.

Show your voice share what you found interesting, what questions you had, and what you thought was important.

Many different formats are acceptable here. This is a brainstorm, so formal structure is not required.

  • Bo ART 120

    PART 1

1st Sketchbook Project: (scroll all the way down to be sure not to miss the creatives part of the asssignment.)

    Part I:

  • Create 10 different Positive /Negative compositions with simple shapes of black, white and gray. You can use markers, ink or cut paper or paint. Whatever you have available. Work from life or paintings simplifying shapes or just from your imagination. No figure ground reversal occurs just subject and background. This is usually not as closely cropped in for example, like a coffee cup sitting on a table zoomed out.
  • Figure/Ground Reversal- Using black and white cut paper, black sharpie, ink or paint (all creating high contrast) create 10 different figure/ground compositions. Remember figure-ground reversal occurs when you have high contrast and about 50% white and 50% black to push the pos/neg space. Sometimes the black looks forward sometimes the white does, it moves back and forth. Create interesting shapes and Composition!

    Video explanation of Sketchbook I

Part II: Creative Exercises in Sketchbook: These should be on separate pages or thumbnails from the first part. Two separate images.

    1. Make a mark on the page and then make a strong, balanced composition from it. It can be representational or non-representational.
    2. Tear the page- either a piece off or just tear into the paper. Create a composition or drawing on the paper thats left or incorporate the tear into your drawing. It can be representational or non-representational.

Photograph all the work (in all 3 parts), and create ONEPDF file that is reduced in size. Really large files sometimes don’t load. A couple of megabytes for a maximum is a good file size.

**Be sure to label each section or image and Put a frame around ALL of them.

    PART 2-

    AssignmentCollage Assignment

Part I: Create a Collage (pasting flat materials with actual texture, like foil, yarn, sandpaper to a picture plane) or papier colle (pasting 2d papers with pattern to represent texture, like tickets, portions of newspapers, menus, photos, etc). You can create a collage with representational subject matter, like a landscape or figure, or it can be completely non-representational, just playing with the elements, like shapes and textures. Collage and Papier colle in art is created by fastening actual materials with textural interest to a flat working surface. These art forms may be used to simulate natural textures but are usually created for decorative purposes. Consider balance when applying the textures! 18 x 24

Part II: Critique at least 2 other students collages within 24 hours of the due date by replying to their post using the vocabulary terms. Remember you can like posts too. Refer to the critique guide if necessary.

    Examples:

    PART 3-

    Composition Exercises:

    1. Use cut black and white paper, ink, paint or sharpie so you have high contrast. Create a thumbnail composition of the following words with a non-objective simple shapes only:

    1. gravity(sense of pulling down weight),
    2. flying or lightweight,
    3. unstable,
    4. Anchored,
    5. fast,
    6. slow,
    7. hard,
    8. soft,
    9. trapped or confined,
    10. free/open space.

    2. Then create a second set for the same words using 2 or more non-objective shapes. You should finish with 20. Remember- Show me the essence of the words pertaining to that compositional space. DO NOT illustrate them.

    example

    Explanation on video:

Here are some examples of objective abstraction, where they reduce an object to its bare essence.

    Constin Brancusi Bird in space:

    Piet Mondrian- apple tree series:

    Mondrian.png

    3. Creative Exercise in Sketchbook: Copy 3 master drawings in tone only using only simple shapes of value-dissecting them for overall value pattern. It can help to make a Black and White copy first. Then you are simplifying. Be sure to include the master image you are using.

    ValuePatternEx.jpg

    4. Make pencil rubbings (rubbing over things to create texture) all over the page then add lines, shapes, values, etc. to create a drawing from it.

  • Literature Question

The articulation of the relationship between individual and societal forces is often challenged in modern literary studies using character and narrative structure. Choose any work that you have read and critically analyze the way the author describes the conflict between individual selfhood and current social norms.

In your analysis, you must explain how one of these main characters tried to cope with at least some external pressure, such as cultural norms, family obligation, social hierarchy, gender ideology or political thought. Demonstrate how the author uses particular literary deviations, like symbolism, subtle characterization, dialogic conversation, expressive imagery, or change of narrative point of view, to prefigure this conflict.

Moreover, consider the ways in which the decisions or changes of the character contribute to the thematic issues of the text in general. Establish the following: Does the protagonist eventually internalize itself to social expectations, or does it struggle forcefully, or does it aim to establish a compromise, and give specific textual proof to your argument.

Your answer will also be expected to be rigorously critical and an active engagement with the content. It is suggested not to recapitulate the plot in a reductive manner, but focus on the interpretation analysis of the communicative intent of the author with respect to the individual-society dynamic.

Answer should be in APA format .NO use of AI

Use a template to identify roles, responsibilities, qualifications, and ethical requirements of healthcare professionals.

In todays healthcare system, teamwork across disciplines is crucial for delivering high-quality care. These teams include a variety of professionals, such as providers, administrators, and allied health specialists, each bringing unique skills and knowledge. Providers, like doctors and nurse practitioners, focus on diagnosing and directly treating patients.

Administrators are key to keeping operations smooth by managing patient records, ensuring compliance with regulations, and overseeing operational workflows that support the entire multi-disciplinary teams. Allied health professionals, including radiologic technologists and physical therapists, offer specialized services that assist with diagnosis, treatment, and patient recovery. Working together, these roles create a well-rounded approach to care, allowing healthcare teams to effectively meet complex patient needs.

Use the to complete the assessment. The template is a treasure hunt to build a foundation to better understand healthcare professionals core requirements and how they work together to provide holistic patient care across various settings.

    1. Choose Roles: Select two roles in each of the three categories [six roles total] Located in Appendix A of the template:
      • Providers: Healthcare professionals with a terminal degree or advanced practice certification (e.g., Primary Care Physician, Nurse Practitioner).
      • Administrators: Healthcare professionals focused on healthcare management, data management, or patient services (e.g., Healthcare Administrator, Medical Office Manager).
      • Allied Health Professionals: Specialists who provide diagnostic, therapeutic, or support services (e.g., Radiologic Technologist, Physical Therapist).
    2. Research Each Column: For each chosen role, complete each data column based on the definitions provided in Appendix B. Use reliable sources, such as peer-reviewed journals, textbooks, or trusted healthcare websites, to find accurate information. Below is a guide to each column:
      • Healthcare Professional Role: Write the title of each professional role, such as “Primary Care Physician” or “Radiologic Technologist.”
      • Primary Responsibility: Summarize the main duties and daily tasks for each role, describing what these professionals are responsible for in a healthcare setting.
      • Qualifications [Degree Level]: State the minimum educational level needed for each role, including any specific degrees (e.g., MD for a medical doctor, Associates degree for a select technician and so on).
      • Certifications [If required]: List any required certifications or licenses needed to practice legally in each role, such as board certification, state licensure, or specialty certifications.
      • Scope of Practice: Define the types of activities, treatments, or services each professional can legally perform, noting any limitations or variations based on state or facility.
      • Ethical Requirements: Describe the ethical guidelines that professionals in each role must follow, such as patient confidentiality, informed consent, and professionalism.
  • C 2003 ASSESS 2

Create a presentation for a lunch-and-learn session in which you discuss the practices operational priorities across the continuum of care.

The continuum of care includes all the healthcare services a person might need, from prenatal to end-of-life, or preventive care to treatment and recovery. It focuses on keeping care connected and organized across different stages of health and providers. Primary care involves routine check-ups and basic healthcare needs. Secondary care includes specialists for more specific conditions. Tertiary care focuses on advanced treatments, like surgeries or specialized therapies. Quaternary care provides highly complex and rare services, such as experimental treatments.

Healthcare administrators work in various settings, such as hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities. The smaller the organization, the more hats they wear. Larger organizations always have a C-Suite management team, which includes the board of directors, chief executive officer (CEO), chief financial officer (CFO), chief operations officer (COO), chief medical officer (CMO), chief nursing officer (CNO), chief compliance officer (CCO), and chief information officer (CIO).

For this assessment, imagine you have taken a job as an administrator at a physician’s practice that belongs to a large accountable care organization (ACO). This ACO includes three hospitals, several clinics, and services like pharmacies, surgery centers, and other facilities, all connected within a vertically integrated delivery system. One of your first tasks is to hold a lunch-and-learn session where you meet your team, introduce yourself, and talk about the practices operational priorities across the continuum of care.

    • View the preparation video:
      • .
    • To search for additional sources beyond the ones provided in the course resources:
      • Use the . Click on the section and scroll down to Continuum of Care.
      • Using the , you can find many articles on the topics for this assessment by searching for source articles and background information on continuum of care, case management, healthcare ecosystem, and other common terms provided to you in the course materials.

Follow the requirements listed below to create your presentation. In the Notes section of the PowerPoint, add the script that you would follow in a real lunch-and-learn session. Include in-text citations of your sources in the slides and in the Notes. Your presentation does not need to have an audio recording.

  • a 3022 assess 2

Conduct a case study analysis and write 56 pages on the different characteristics of the supply chain strategy, including transportation, for a selected company.

In this assessment, you will research a selected company and develop a case study analysis. All operational activities begin with an estimate of what customer demands will be. Production schedules, modes of transportation, warehouse space, and other supply chain activities are all dependent on the accuracy of the company’s demand forecasting. The information management system must provide thorough, accurate, and timely information so that supply chain managers can prepare and execute short- and long-term plans. Satisfying the customer is the number one challenge for all demand forecasters.

Consider that you work for a company that develops and sells case studies and case study analyses. Your company’s primary customers are colleges and universities wanting to use them within their courses, but your company also has customers using them for management training and development. Your manager asked you to conduct research and develop a case study analysis on the company’s supply chain strategy, including transportation. She’s specifically interested in you doing the analysis on one of the companies from this list:

    • Amazon.
    • Apple.
    • AT&T.
    • CVS Health.
    • L. L. Bean.
    • McKesson.
    • Starbucks.
    • Walmart.
    • Your workplace (if your company sells more than $50 million per year).

Research and write about the company that you have selected from the above list.

You and your manager discussed the high-level outline of your analysis and agreed you should address the following items:

    • Describe the company’s business model and illustrate the business model through the use of a diagram or visual.
    • Compare and contrast the company’s supply chain strategy with another organization’s strategies and summarize key findings of areas the other organization excels in.
      • Use another company from the list to determine which supply chain areas the company excels at compared to your selected company.
    • Analyze the transportation strategy of the company using examples of the various transportation modes to support the effectiveness of moving products from factories to customers.
    • Analyze the global challenges that the company faces in its supply chain and discuss risks and associated strategies to minimize the risks.
    • Analyze the economic and political factors that can impact the companys transportation network and relate to future improvements.
    • Analyze the role demand forecasting plays in the company’s supply chain strategy and support the analysis with ways to manage the challenges of forecasting in times of uncertainty.
    • Analyze how pricing promotions are used to change demand through relevant examples that demonstrate this strategy.

Your assessment should also meet the following requirements:

    • Format: Based on the intended audience, your report should be well organized and written in clear, succinct language.
    • Length: 56 double-spaced pages.
    • Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.
    • APA format: Use current APA style and formatting for in-text citations and references. See for help if you need it.

      • Include at least one reference from The Wall Street Journal.
      • Note: Use of additional resources will assist in achieving distinguished level ratings.
