    Instructions:
Your response must be a minimum of 500 words, double-spaced. Please organize your assignment into four distinct paragraphs, numbered 1 through 4. Each paragraph should be approximately 125 words (25% of the total grade).

Note: Use the course textbook strictly as your only source. Outside research is not permitted for this assignment.

    Paragraph 1: The Founding Scholar

  • Discussion Post

Here’s what you’ll need to do:

    • Review the two sample student papers here:
    • WA#1-Sample Language Annotated Bibliography
    • WA#2-Sample Language Six Source Essay
    • Compare the two documents.
    • Review the webpage, Transitions from Purdue OWL
    • Review the .pdf, APA Guide to Transitions
    • Answer the following prompts and post your responses.

After reading the two articles and the information on transitions, answer the following questions:

    (1) How has the writer altered, or changed, the material from the Annotated Bibliography to the Six-Source Essay? (Answer in 1-3 sentences.) (E.g., “The writer has developed a thesis…; The writer has synthesized sources…..; The writer has clarified connections…”)

    (2) What sources has she added to the Six Source Essay? What effect do the new source(s) have on the essay? (1-3 sentences) (E.g., “The new sources serve to emphasize the writer’s point that…; The new sources illustrate specific ideas in the other articles…..”)

    (3) Pick a paragraph section of the Six-Source Essay where synthesis needs to be improved, and add an appropriate transitional phrase/sentence.

As you think about synthesis in the Six Source Essay, consider the use of transitions. Transitions are like signs for your readers. They give direction and they help to link things together. Good transitions move the reader from one point to the next, and they also focus the attention of the reader on the main idea of the essay. You can use words or phrases as transitions, but you must be careful to choose words that indicate the right relationship between ideas. Here are a few examples of relationships you can indicate with transitions:

    • to show addition: and, also, in addition, furthermore.
    • to give examples: for example, for instance, specifically
    • to compare: also, likewise, similarly
    • to contrast: however, on the other hand, yet, although
    • to summarize or conclude: therefore, in other words
    • to show time: after, before, during, next, finally, meanwhile, immediately
    • to show place or direction: above, below, nearby, close, far, left, right
    • to indicate logical relationships: therefore, consequently, as a result, thus, since, because.

The foundation of a successful RTI model is to monitor both student learning and instructional practices and use information gathered to make data-driven decisions. Teachers should utilize effective classroom assessments to monitor student progress across all tiers of instruction, especially during intervention and remediation. Formative assessments are frequently used to evaluate student learning to make intentional instructional decisions about intervention and remediation. Important factors to consider include reliable and valid progress monitoring measures that align with student learning goals, consistent and ethical assessment administration, scoring and graphing data, analyzing data to make data-driven instructional decisions, and respectfully communicating progress to all stakeholders.

    Part 1: Analyzing Student Data

Utilizing Savannahs, Graysons, and Alejandros case studies from RTI: Progress Monitoring, imagine you are meeting with the RTI team to discuss the next steps for these students.

Choose one of the following deliverables to complete this assignment:

    • 400-500 word script, including documentation of resource

Utilizing the deliverable of your choice, present your data analysis and recommended next steps for each student to the RTI team. Include the following information about each student:

    • An initial summary and analysis of each students progress monitoring data.
    • Recommendations for instructional next steps (e.g., continue with intervention/remediation, add additional intervention/remediation, or discontinue the current intervention/remediation), including an explanation of how the data supports each students instructional recommendation.
    • If recommending that intervention be added or continued, identify one individual goal based on the assessment data and describe steps to progress monitor the individual goal.

Part 2: Student and Family Communication

Write a 250-500 word summary on how you will partner with students and families to make data-driven instructional decisions. In your summary explain the following information:

    • How you use data to guide and engage students in self-analysis, literacy goal setting, and reflecting on learning.
    • Provide an example of a system/strategy to use with students to track their learning and goal progress and discuss how it can also be used to inform your future instructional planning based on identified learning gaps and patterns.
    • At least two ways to communicate data and student progress to families.
    • How you communicate data to students and families showing respect and dignity while still conveying the urgent need for an intervention plan.

Support your word script with a minimum of two scholarly resources.
