    Course Term Project:

The Course Project is designed to address the following module outcome:

Write a literature review synthesizing major works and theories and addressing a current topic in the communication discipline (SLO 1,2,3)

Final Project Instructions: Write a Literature Review addressing a communication topic appropriate for future primary study using quantitative, qualitative, or critical/rhetorical communication research approaches. The final project will be a literature review that covers a communication-related research topic that could be studied during your time as a grad student. The Lit Review will need to comprehensively cover the subject of a topic that is narrow enough to be researched but broad enough to be meaningful and have potential to make significant contributions to the communication discipline. You will learn how to select a topic, find sources, outline or structure/organize the lit review, and write the review in a well-organized essay that adheres to APA Style. The review should conclude with a purpose of the study including proposed research questions or hypotheses if appropriate to your methods – that you could attempt to answer in another class based on evidence provided in the literature review.

A written report (minimum 2000 words, excluding title page and references) is required for this assignment. Writing should be concise and appropriate for context and purpose. The report should be written in APA style and follow the standard academic requirements including an appropriate list of cited references. Review Purdue Owl and course materials for appropriate format and style guidelines. Submit by the due date as lastname_firstname_CMAC6203Final. See Blackboard for additional instructions. See rubric in Course Resources for more information. 100 points

In preparing the assignment the following conditions must be followed:

No actual research involving the collection of primary data from human participants should be performed, i.e., interviews, observation, focus groups, surveys, …etc.

I HAVE ATTACHED AN EXAMPLE PAPER AND THE ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY FOR THE TOPIC I PLAN TO DISCUSS.

Literature Review Topic: Digital Media and Communication in Higher Education

The communication related topic I am interested in addressing in my literature review is the role of digital media in shaping communication practices, identity construction, and engagement within higher education. Digital media including social media platforms, learning management systems, online forums, and institutional communication channels has transformed how individuals create, share, and interpret messages. Unlike traditional media, digital media is interactive, participatory, and networked, allowing users to simultaneously act as content producers and consumers.

This issue is significant in communication because digital media alters the fundamental processes of meaning-making. Communication is not only the transmission of information but the production and exchange of meaning within cultural contexts (Fiske, 2010). Digital platforms amplify this process by enabling rapid dissemination, public dialogue, and algorithm-driven visibility. In higher education, digital media influences how students form identities, build community, engage in academic discourse, and interpret institutional messages. It also affects organizational culture, as universities must adapt communication strategies to remain transparent, inclusive, and responsive (Schein, 2010). Furthermore, digital media can both reinforce and challenge power structures, making it a critical area for communication scholarship.

The theoretical framework for this project will integrate several communication theories and models. Uses and Gratifications Theory will help explain why individuals actively engage with digital media to meet informational, social, or identity-related needs. Media Ecology Theory will provide insight into how digital environments reshape human interaction and perception. Social Identity Theory will support analysis of how individuals construct and negotiate identity in digital spaces. Additionally, Organizational Communication Theory will be applied to examine how institutions use digital media to manage reputation, engagement, and culture. Methodologically, qualitative approaches such as discourse analysis or content analysis may be used to examine digital communication patterns.

By examining digital media through theoretical and organizational lenses, this literature review will contribute to understanding how digital communication environments shape meaning, identity, and institutional dynamics in contemporary society.

  • Write a nice reply to two

they have to answer this question- Mainstream Media vs Social Media

Traditional mainstream media act as so-called gatekeepers that vet the news and decide what kind of content gets published. However, social media networks have changed the game. Now anyone with an internet connection can publish anything, even fake news, and reach vast audiences in mere seconds. What are the benefits and dangers of this unprecedented access and speed of distribution?

Someone answer this, can you write a nice reply to this –

One benefit is that people are prepared for natural disasters. If theres a hurricane coming in your area, you can know days ahead of time so you can prepare your house and family for when it comes. You can even get constant updates to the hurricane seeing what areas were affected and what areas are closed off. One of the dangers is the spread of misinformation. If one website publishes something alarming, more websites and accounts will post the same thing within seconds of each other. It isnt until much later that the story is fact checked in proving false. At that point it doesnt even matter because everyone has seen the story and believed it.

And can you write a nice replay to this –

There are many benefits and downsides to social media. To begin with, social media is fast and easy to use. Almost all ages are able to operate social media. It is also extremely versatile when it comes to the possibilities with different platforms and apps. With it being fast, news can be spread very quickly throughout the entire globe.

Downsides to social media can controversially outweigh the benefits. Anyone can post, meaning that false news can be spread across social networks anywhere. Also, people can make fake accounts to impersonate others. There is also lots of people who try to get personal information out of others without them knowing.

    Assignment Instructions

For this Site Visit, students will perform field research by attending a religious service outside of their own religious tradition. The goal is to immerse each student in an unfamiliar religious context (example: Christians should perform field research on a non-Christian religion, like Buddhism, Hinduism, etc.)

At the top of your paper, please include the name of the religious site visited, the date visited, the names of any individuals you may have interviewed, and the particular sect or denomination of the religion that practices at the site.

[If you visited a Muslim mosque, was it Sunni or Shiite? If you visited a Jewish synagogue, was it Orthodox, Conservative, or Reform? If you visited a Buddhist temple, was it Theravada or a Mahayana sect?] You may want to ask this when you call to find out if your visit is acceptable.

Your research should ideally progress in three stages:

    Stage 1: Preliminary research

    • Before going to the service, it is a good idea to do some preliminary research on the religious tradition. For example, if youre attending a Hindu ceremony, you will want to read the textbook chapter and watch the PowerPoint presentation on Hinduism. Additionally, I strongly recommend that you call the site youll be visiting and let them know youre coming to do research for a class project. Ask them if theres any dress code requirements, or anything else you should keep in mind. You may also want to ask if they will allow you to take notes during the service. (Some Jewish denominations, for example, do not allow writing on Shabbat {Saturday}.)

    Stage 2: Field research

    • Attend the service and observe closely. You may want to take notes. Some students have found it helpful to attend services in groups, and youre welcome to do this.

    Stage 3: Supplementary research

    • After your visit, research any elements of the experience that were unfamiliar and that left you with questions, including but not limited to the practices, symbols, dress code, and conversations encountered at the site. In other words, research each practice and find out why its done in this particular sect.

    Examples:

    • If you go to a Jewish service and you see the men wearing kippahs (or yarmulkes), you dont want to write in your essay, There were these men and they were wearing these funny hats but I dont know why. This is where your additional research comes in. Find out what the hats are called, and find out why theyre worn.
    • If you go to a Muslim mosque and you see the worshipers washing their hands and feet, you dont want to write in your essay, Everyone was washing their hands and feet but I dont know why they did that and it was pretty weird.

Upon completing these three stages, write a detailed and insightful essay. It should demonstrate a general understanding of the religious tradition; use your research to explain your experience at the site. What did you see around you? What did the place of worship look like? Did you see any religious art or religious symbols there? How were people dressed? What rituals were performed?

Finally, include your personal reaction to the service. How did you respond? Did you enjoy the visit or did you feel uncomfortable? Were your opinions about the religion challenged or confirmed by the site visit?

Requirements: 1800-2000 words (not including your Works Cited page)

Respond to the prompt below with a minimum of 150 words and include at least two concepts or vocabulary terms from the textbook or lecture.

Understanding the intersection of politics, commerce, artistic expression, and the music industry

During the early 1950s, three members of the Weavers were falsely accused of being Communists during the McCarthy era. The ensuing pressure caused Decca records to drop the Weavers’ record contract, and they never again appeared on the pop charts.

In 2003 during the build-up to the Iraq war, Dixie Chicks member Natalie Maines criticized President Bush while the band was touring Europe. The fierce backlash against the band lead to a boycott of their music and the withdrawal of their tour sponsor, Lipton.

Research these events in greater detail. What are the significant similarities and differences? Do you feel that the political views of musical artists are relevant in understanding or appreciating their music? Why or why not?

  • Module 6 Discussion SEP

    respond to Taylor Brown:

One thing from this module that makes sense to me is the idea of imagery. Imagery is not just daydreaming about winning. It means using your mind to picture and feel yourself doing a skill before you actually do it. You can see the field or court, hear the crowd, and even feel your body moving. Good imagery should feel clear and real. I also understand that there are different reasons why imagery works. One idea says it helps your brain make a map for how to move. Another idea says your muscles and brain get slightly activated, almost like you are really practicing. Both ideas help explain why imagery can improve performance. One thing that does not fully make sense to me is how we know which theory is the main reason imagery works. It seems like the brain, body, and confidence could all improve at the same time. I would like to learn more about how researchers figure that out. My thinking about goals has also changed. I used to think the most important goal was winning. Now I understand that process and performance goals are better because you can control them. For example, focusing on good form or effort can help more than just thinking about first place.
