Do not wait until the last minute! As part of this course, you will complete one current event assignment. For this assignment, you must find a
recent (no more than 2 years old) article (newspaper or magazine) addressing a child maltreatment topic. Your
article may come from the internet, b
ut only from a reputable news site (for example, GoUpstate.com). Lastly,
you should find complete articles, not a police blotter. The topic of your article may be about an actual case of
child maltreatment, child welfare policy, a prevention/intervention p
rogram, etc., and the current event may
be local, national, or international. Once you have found your article, you must write a summary (2 pages,
typed, double
–
spaced) that includes the details of the article itself and their relation to the information w
e
have discussed in class/your textbook. For example, if your article is about a case of child maltreatment, you
might discuss the risk factors present in the case and any mandated reporting issues. If your article is about a
new prevention program, you mi
ght discuss whether it is a primary/secondary/tertiary prevention program
and what theoretical model it seems to follow. They must be uploaded to Blackboard by 11:59 pm on the due
date.
Assignments turned in after the due date will be accepted late and receive a penalty of 5 points daily.
Make sure to summarize the ideas of others in your phrasing and refrain from quoting (see Plagiarism
Workshop). Lastly, check the grammar and spelling c
ount.
The due date is between

. You can
turn this assignment in at any point during that period.
AI should not be used for this assignment to assess
