You will work with the a second minor, different from the one you used in the first part of the course. We will refer to this minor as “Discipline 2” or your second minor/area of concentration.
You will prepare a 1- to 2-page guide sheet, summarizing key information about your second minor/area of concentration.
Preparing this guide sheet will require a combination of research and articulation of your own ideas, based on classes you have already completed. Use at least one credible, authoritative source to answer the following 8 questions:
- What are the discipline’s major concerns? That is, what kinds of things do experts in this discipline concentrate on and think about?
- What are the discipline’s potential contributions to the world?
- What questions does the discipline frequently raise?
- What are key concepts, terms, or theories that are central to the discipline?
- What are key authors or texts (i.e., books & articles) central to the discipline?
- What methods does the discipline apply to gather information?
- How does the discipline analyze information once it is gathered?
- What are the disciplines underlying assumptions, presumptions, oversights, and/or gaps? Where does it fall short?
You will need to summarize or record your answers, so you will want to cite your source or sources.
A credible, authoritative source can be:
- a textbook, other book or scholarly article
- the website or publication of a major organization in the discipline (i.e., the American Medical Association, the National Communication Association, etc.)
- some other well-credential news or web source
- a professor or teacher in the discipline (i.e., you can directly interview your instructors, in-person, via phone/Zoom, or via email)
- a professional who works in the discipline (i.e., you can directly interview these professionals/experts, as well)
