Discussion 1

Our textbook often refers to community psychologist. For our purposes, you may often insert the phrase “community counselor to make these concepts more applicable to a wider audience of caregivers. Perhaps clarifying this in chapter 2, the authors use the phrase community psychology practitioners (p. 36).

Here is a quote from our text:

Major areas of focus of practice in this era covered a broad range of content areas, including mental health, HIV, substance abuse, violence prevention, tobacco cessation, health issues such as asthma, social determinants of health, healthy communities, children and families, racism/health disparities, and others (Scott and Wolfe, 2015, p. 23).

Of the competences for Community Psychology Practice discussed in Chapter 2 of the Scott and Wolfe (2015) text (Table 2.1, pp. 44-45), identify two and provide a discussion of how these look in practice and how to build these competencies as practitioners.
