Discussion Week 6
Patient safety and quality improvement are essential components of professional nursing practice. Nurses play a critical role in identifying safety risks, participating in quality improvement (QI) initiatives, and implementing evidence-based practices to improve patient outcomes. Evidence-based practice integrates the best available research with clinical expertise and patient preferences to guide healthcare decision-making. Understanding how to search for and critically appraise evidence, as well as recognizing barriers to implementation, helps nurses apply research findings effectively in clinical settings.
For this discussion, reflect on the role of nurses in promoting patient safety and improving healthcare quality and address the following questions:
- Discuss the importance of patient safety in healthcare and identify one common safety issue that can affect patient outcomes.
- Explain the purpose of quality improvement (QI) processes in healthcare and describe how QI initiatives help improve patient care.
- Describe the role of nurses in quality improvement and provide an example of how nurses can contribute to improving patient safety or care processes.
- Explain how nurses can search for and critically appraise research evidence when implementing evidence-based practice.
- Identify one barrier to implementing evidence-based practice in healthcare settings and discuss a strategy that could help overcome this barrier.
Please use the submission requirements for all the BSN classes discussions.
