Applying the Roles of the Baccalaureate Nurse
Now that youve explored the four key roles of the baccalaureate-prepared nurse for the last two modules, let’s apply that knowledge and discuss it with your peers. Remember the four roles: Provider of Patient-Centered Care, Patient Safety Advocate, Member of the Interdisciplinary Team, and Member of the Profession. It’s time to reflect on how these roles are applied in real nursing practice and clinical practicum.
Discussion prompt:
Think about a clinical experience in your practicum or healthcare setting youve been part of (or read about). Choose two of the four BSN roles and answer the following:
- Describe a situation where you (or another nurse) demonstrated (or failed to demonstrate) one or both roles.
- What was the impact on the patient, team, or outcome?
- How might a BSN-prepared nurse have approached the situation differently?
- Reflect on how this relates to your future practice as a professional nurse.
Instructions:
- Your initial post should be at least 200 words. Correctly integrate in the initial post at least two (2) credible sources to support content in APA format, which includes a textbook and one peer-reviewed article.
- Respond to at least two peers with at least one paragraph, adding insight or asking a thoughtful follow-up question. Responses should include one relevant citation and reference per post.
- Please review the rubric before starting this assignment. It can be viewed by clicking the three dotes on the top right and choosing show rubric.
