Directions: Choose one of the following prompts from the in-class assignment or one the prompts below that

aligns with something that you experienced (photos required) and write a claim letter that meets the standards of

effective claim letter writing as outlined in your textbook. You are the composer of the letter.

Prompt 1: Poor Customer Service Experience

You recently visited a store or contacted a company for customer service and had a negative experience. The staff

was unhelpful, rude, or unprofessional, and it led to a disappointing outcome. Write a claim letter to the appropriate

person in the company requesting an adjustment (claim) you feel is commensurate with your experience. The letter

must be addressed to the actual person in the company that would handle your claim.

Prompt 2: Defective or Damaged Product

You purchased a product (e.g., an electronic device, clothing, or furniture), and upon receiving it, you found that it

was damaged, faulty, or not working as expected. Write a claim letter to the retailer or manufacturer that requests a

specific adjustment for your claim. You must address your letter to the actual person who would handle your claim.

Prompt 3: Delayed or Unfulfilled Service

You hired a company to provide a service (e.g., home repairs, internet installation, or catering), but the service was

either delayed or not completed as promised. Write a letter to the company expressing your dissatisfaction with the

delay or incomplete service and requesting a specific adjustment for your claim. Your letter must be written to the

actual person in the company who would handle your claim.

RemindersAll letters should:

  • be composed to a specific primary reader with a specific business address.
  • be one page in length and contain four body paragraphs; letter should have standard business formatting.
  • have visual appeal.
  • include all relevant information (including contact information) for the recipient to make an informed
  • decision.

    Use the textbook as a guide not as a template. The sample letters provided fit that particular scenario and

    not necessarily this assignment. Letters that directly copy textbook samples (to include language and style) or

    use templates or AI tools will receive a zero!
