Overview
In todays business environment, organizations increasingly rely on diverse teams to drive innovation, improve decision-making, and reflect their customer base. However, managing diversity also presents unique challenges that leaders must navigate to ensure fairness, inclusion, and productivity.
In this assignment, you will step into the role of a newly promoted manager at a mid-sized company. Your task is to analyze a workplace scenario, apply the concepts of primary and secondary diversity dimensions, and evaluate the challenges and benefits of employing a diverse workforce. This hands-on exercise will allow you to demonstrate your ability to move beyond theory and apply your knowledge to real-world organizational situations.
Scenario
You are a new manager at Harper & Co., a growing business services company with 400 employees. The company recently expanded into several new markets and has hired staff from different regions, age groups, and backgrounds. While leadership celebrates this diversity, tensions have emerged between some teams. Productivity is steady but morale varies, and exit interviews reveal that some employees feel excluded or misunderstood.
At the same time, one division has thrived under a highly diverse team, showing measurable improvements in innovation, client satisfaction, and retention. Senior leadership wants you to assess both the challenges and benefits of the companys increasingly diverse workforce to help guide future initiatives.

Create a Word document that addresses the following:
Step 1: Analyze Primary & Secondary Diversity Dimensions
- Define Primary and Secondary diversity dimensions in your own words.
- Provide at least three examples of each type of diversity dimension.
- Identify your own primary and secondary diversity characteristics to reflect on how your experiences might shape your management approach.
Step 2: Apply to the Scenario
Using the Harper & Co. scenario:
- Identify two challenges the company may face in creating and managing a diverse workforce. Explain why these challenges might occur and their potential impact on productivity, morale, and retention.
- Identify two benefits the company may gain from its diverse workforce. Explain how these benefits can positively impact innovation, customer satisfaction, and employee retention.
