Reminder, any time you are asked about a specific video or reading it is expected that you will reference parts of that video or reading. You are expected to use direct quotes, and, when applicable, page numbers from the readings. Failure to do this will lower your score for that question/assignment, and, worse, disappoint Buddha.
1) Watch through the Buddhism video. What are 3 things explained in this video that you recognize as something that our society is still doing? What were 2 things that absolutely surprised you? What was most interesting? The Story of Western Philosophy video posted at the bottom of this week’s folder is from the same content creator, but not required. You may find it interesting and helpful in your answers for this question in that Buddhism is rooted in Eastern Philosophy, and it may help you understand some of the differences that come from cultural dynamics.
2) You do not have to read the entire reading post on Feminist Philosophy. It is an interesting read, but also a bit more dense than what I normally like to post for a fundamental level course. Part of what I am hoping to learn from your answers is whether this is the type of reading I should be assigning instead of the Shakespeare in the Bush reading. So, yes, this is yet another question where you are helping me to prepare for the next version of the class, but you’ve all been great about answering those questions so far so we will keep doing it! SO… read the Introduction section, and then pick 2 of the sub-headings under “What is Feminism” to read. You can read the entire thing if you like – it is very well written from a scholastic standpoint, and we should probably expect that from Stanford. Identify which 2 sub-headings your read, and explain what you learned, what you felt was most interesting, and how you can apply these ideas outside of class.
3) In this video, I explain 5 important foundational scholars in the communication discipline. Please explain your answers to the following questions – do not use the same scholar more than once: Which of these 5 do you think would do the best job as President of Bristol Community College? Which of these 5 do you think could teach our class well? Which of these scholars would want to have as your academic advisor? Which one would you like to have a meal with, and, for fun, where would you take them? Explain why you did not use the other 2.
