In algebra, a monomial is a specific type of algebraic expression that consists of exactly one term.
To be considered a monomial, the expression must meet these three criteria:
- Composition: It can be a constant (a number), a variable, or a product of a constant and one or more variables.
- No Addition or Subtraction: It cannot contain operations like addition (+) or subtraction (–) between variables.
- Exponents: The variables must have non-negative integer exponents. This means you cannot have variables in the denominator (like $frac{1}{x}$) or variables under a radical (like Root of x).
