Last week of work

For this final discussion, you will watch one of the films listed on the previous page* that portrays addiction, recovery, policy, or the social impact of substance use. These films show real-world examples of many of the ideas we studied in this course including determinants of addiction, stigma, criminalization vs. treatment, family impact, and harm reduction.

*if you have a different favorite movie on the topic, you can use that one

Your goal is to connect what you see in the film to what you have learned in this class.

Instructions

In three, 57 sentence paragraphs

  1. Briefly summarize the main story or focus of the film.
  2. Identify at least two course concepts you saw in the film. Examples include:
    • Determinants of addiction (biology, behavior, community, SDoH)
    • Public health models (harm reduction, continuum of care, stages of change, etc.)
    • Stigma and stereotypes
    • Criminalization vs. treatment
    • Family, community, or economic impact
  3. Explain how the film helped you better understand addiction as a public health issue.
