Week 4 Discussion Forum
The purpose of this discussion is to critically examine conflict management strategies that have proven to be ineffective in workplace settings.
Instructions:
In conflict management, there are many strategies that leaders may attempt to use to resolve conflicts. Our learning activities and materials explored some of the strategies that have proven to be ineffective. For this discussion, you will explore conflict management strategies that you have observed or experienced that do not work well in the workplace setting. Respond to the following questions for your initial post:
- Briefly share about a conflict that you have seen or experienced where an ineffective strategy of conflict management was used.
- Consider some of the ineffective strategies listed in our readings this week, like non-action or secrecy. What makes these strategies ineffective in resolving the conflicts you have seen or experienced?
- What are the potential or real negative consequences of using one of these types of conflict management strategies? How might they impact team dynamics, morale, or long-term productivity?
For your two reply posts, offer your thoughts on others’ analysis of ineffective strategies, providing suggestions for alternative responses to the conflict (pulling content from last week’s topic of conflict resolution styles). Or share similar experiences and insights.
