Packback Discussion Board 2
Formulate a thoughtful, open-ended question with a curiosity score of 70 or above. Below, you will find several options to guide your initial post for this module. Try to create a question that encourages meaningful discussion. Click Ask a New Question to write your initial post and write your open-ended question first. (What do you want to know about the topic you chose?)
Exceptional questions may be pinned or featured to highlight potential for sparking engaging conversations.

There are many different types of fats used in cooking and food processing. The debate regarding which ones are the healthiest is ongoing. Choose one fat from the list below that is used in cooking or food processing. Discuss the health benefits and/or risks, as well as what factors should be considered when choosing fats for cooking and processed foods.

Animal fats (including but not limited to): butter, ghee, lard, tallow
(It is fine to research a fat that is not listed if you know it is used in cooking or food processing!)
Other questions to consider: (You do not have to answer all of these questions, they are here to help you if you don’t know what to write or need to boost your curiosity score.)
- What is the benefit of using this oil in cooking or food processing? (High smoke point? Palatability? Texture? etc.)
- What factors contributed to the increase or decrease in use of this oil? Was it frequently used in the past and no longer used now, or is the oil you chose becoming more popular now due to the perceived health risks of other oils?
- Have any celebrities, influencers, or major brands touted the health effects of this oil? Have they criticized this oil or encouraged people not to consume it? Was their recommendation based on scientific evidence?
