Discussion Instructions
For this discussion, you will engage with one of the AACN Essentials competencies using the TQE method(Thoughts, Questions, Epiphanies), introduced in Module 1. This approach encourages deep reflection, inquiry, and collaborative learning.
Step 1: Explore the Essentials
- Skim the AACN Essentials document to familiarize yourself with its structure.
- Focus on the competencies beginning on page 27.
- Choose one competency (excluding #6.4, which will be addressed in Module 6).
- To reserve your topic, start a new discussion thread with the competency number and title in the subject line. Only one student may select each competency.
Step 2: Create Your Initial Post
Once youve reserved your competency, return to your thread and write a post that includes:
- A brief summary of the contextual statement for the competency.
- A synthesis of the differences between the entry-level and advanced-level expectations(no need to list sub-competenciesfocus on your understanding).
- An example of how both an entry-level nurse and an advanced practice nurse might demonstrate this competency in practice.
- Your thoughts, questions, or epiphanies related to the competency, informed by your reading of the Essentials and any relevant literature.
Step 3: Engage with Peers
- Respond to at least two classmates threads.
- In your responses:
- Offer thoughtful commentary on their analysis.
- Identify potential barriers to achieving the competency.
- Add new insights, ask clarifying questions, or share relevant experiences to move the conversation forward.
