Your active participation in the weekly discussions is important to the shared learning experience. Active discussions will also develop your community of professionals. Please participate as early in the week as possible to help promote a robust discussion.
After you have completed the readings, post your initial response to the following discussion. Your post should respond to all parts of the topic(s) in complete sentences, and should extend the discussion of the group by including original thoughts or ideas with support from multiple academic outside sources and/or course materials, correctly using APA style, both in-text and complete reference at the end of the post.
After you have submitted your initial post, review other posts and respond to multiple classmates. Your response to other classmates should ask follow-up questions or provide additional ideas that expand on the topic. Be sure to post your responses over multiple days throughout the unit week as this helps promote a real discussion. Refer to your Discussion Board Rubric for a specific grading explanation.
The Respondent Conditioning Process
Complete the readings and the before you attempt the discussion question.
Consider your own reflexive or respondent behaviors that occur as a result of a previous stimulus-stimulus pairing in your environment. Using the respondent conditioning “equation” to guide your organization, identify the unconditioned stimulus and the unconditioned response.
Next, identify the neutral stimulus, and discuss the event(s) that contributed to the formation of the conditioned stimulus eliciting the conditioned response. How does this respondent behavior impact you in your environment? If this behavior impacts you in a negative way, describe the process you could use to extinguish the stimulus-stimulus pairing that elicits your conditioned response. If this behavior impacts you in a positive way, describe the process you could use to elicit the same response under the control of other stimuli.
Review two of your classmate’s responses using following ideas as a guide:
- Are all stimuli and responses arranged correctly? If not, provide a suggestion for correction.
- Is the process for extinguishing or eliciting responses accurately discussed?
- What other suggestions do you have to address the extinguishing or eliciting of the response?
- Ask at least one thoughtful follow up question.
