The paper must include the following:

History/Background Pick a company, Boeing, Textron, Airbus, or other nationally known aviation company and provide a brief background of the organization describing the product, market, competition, product/service offered, and organizational history. This could be from a previous class project.

Supply Chain Strategy This section is about your strategic fit. It should answer the questions:

  • What is the competitive strategy?
  • What is your competitive advantage aka core competencies (cost, quality, availability, responsiveness, flexibility, service)?
  • Are these competencies difficult for your competitors to duplicate?
  • Are the operational elements aligned and do they support the business strategy (Strategic Fit)?
  • What market risks or competitive threats exist now or in the future? Are there new competitive threats likely from organizations from other industries or geographic markets?

SCM S.W.O.T. Analysis: When evaluating a firm, the S.W.O.T. Analysis needs to be explained in depth., based on class lectures

INTERNAL FACTORS:

  • Strengths: What are the internal strengths of the firm, and what core or distinctive competencies does the firm possess and have? Be very specific and in-depth.
  • Weaknesses: What are the internal weaknesses of the firm, and how does it impact the firm? Be very specific and in-depth.

EXTERNAL FACTORS:

  • Opportunities: What are the external opportunities the firms have are they realistic? What, where, and how: time frame does the firm have to respond? Be very specific and in-depth.
  • Threats: What are the external threats to the firm; identify the threats, such as government policy, foreign government, competitors, raw materials, new inventions or existing products. How will this impact the firm and explain why? Be very specific and in-depth.

Supply Chain Management – should answer the questions:

  • What critical issues do they face with their supply chain?
  • How will the supply chain have to evolve in the future to support the business?
  • Should they be more or less vertically, or horizontally integrated?

Distribution Network/Network Design Identify and explain why this is the best method in the future; then answer the below questions.

  • Create a map showing the top 5 customer’s locations.
  • Identify the key factors you will use to determine the distribution network.
  • What is your distribution network selection?
  • What are the strengths and weaknesses of your network design (and why)?
  • How does this network design affect responsiveness?
  • Determine the best location(s) for a distribution center. What is your reason for selecting the location?
