toilet training
- In the United States, the average age of toilet training is 29 months for girls and 31 months for boys. In contrast, in many African and Asian cultures, infants are expected to be toilet trained prior to 12 months old. Spend about 20-30 minutes searching the internet for webpages to read related to infant potty training, also called elimination communication (diaperfreebaby.org is one place to start). What are your thoughts on the subject? How might both Skinner and Freud respond to the idea of infant potty training?
- Some families and cultures are much more restrictive than others of their toddlers’ and young children’s autonomy. Assess the autonomy of a child from real life or a movie who is between 1 and 4 years old. What actions/environments helped form or hindered his/her autonomy? What are the possible consequences of raising a child with a strong sense of autonomy or a strong sense of shame and doubt?
- Think about an experience in which you learned something that was initially difficult. Please write a detailed description of the learning experience using Vygotskys concepts (see info in weeks 2, 3, and 7, including ideas like apprentice in thinking, guided participation, scaffolding, zone of proximal development). To what extent do Vygotskys concepts explain the experience?
- Develop your own topic for a reflection paper. (random topic) just related to psychology and like child development.
