Week 1 Topic: Your Experience Working with Remote Project Teams
In today’s project environments, working as a member of a remote project team is increasingly common. For this first week’s discussion question, share your experiences working as a member of any remote teams in the past. Consider addressing the following questions:
- What kinds of projects have you worked on as part of a remote team
- Did you ever meet any / all of your teammates in person?
- What were the challenges you faced?
- Did you enjoy the experience?
- What did you learn about yourself working as a member of a remote team?
Week 2: Discussion – To Effectively Manage, First Know Thyself
Week 2 Topic: 16 Personalities TestIn order to effectively manage people it is first important to take some time and understand your own personality traits. With that knowledge in hand, you can then more effectively interact in the teams within your team. Simon Sinek, a noted public speaker addressed the perspective of what it means to be a manager of people… “Leadership is not about being in charge. Leadership is taking care of the people – in your charge”. Towards that end, please go to ( ) and take the free personality test. In your primary post, report your personality profile along with it’s 5 letter acronym. Reflect on what you learned and and how you could use this knowledge as you manage people in a remote team setting. Also consider how you could use the results of this test as an ice-breaker with a new project team to understand how to successfully interact with each team member. Finally, consider how these personality types apply to a single character from the readings in The Five Dysfunctions of a Team.
