Assignment 2 – You will complete this assignment using your assignment 1 as a starting point. This assignment will use the Assignment Rubric and the material you presented in Assignment 1. You will expand upon the literature you examined in Assignment 1 and identify 3 effective and 3 ineffective strategies or practices. Your paper should examine the impediments related to using effective strategies, why these procedures are effective. You will also indicate why the 3 strategies you selected are ineffective and why some teachers continue to use ineffective strategies. These practices may be used in classrooms, home or community settings that can be used with students who are handicapped.
As in Assignment 1, the paper should be based on the professional literature and not your personal opinion. Also, no personal pronouns – write in a professional manner. No problem if you use the effective strategies you used in Assignment 1, but please edit to make sure that the examination of the literature is thorough and original. This means that Assignment 1 will need some editing before using it in Assignment 2 as you may need a more thorough analysis than was provided in Assignment 1. This assignment requires more specific information about these strategies. Please be careful not to just copy Assignment 1 to this assignment. You can use the interventions, but your work must be original.

General but important information about Assignments 1 and 2 . – You will find that both assignments 1 and 2 are somewhat similar. Both of these assignments focus on effective interventions used in school settings. Assignment 1 asked for you to identify and write a short narrative about 3 evidence based practices that promote appropriate behavior in schools. In Assignment 2 we ask you to select 3 interventions and more completely discuss them than you did in Assignment 1 (Yes, you may use the three you selected for Assignment 1). In Assignment 2, while you still asked to provide an enhance view of three positive interventions, you are also to select 3 interventions that have little or no empirical evidence to support their use but, nevertheless, are still are used.
Assignment 2 gives a bigger picture of effective interventions because they also examine those interventions that are effective and those that are ineffective. Further, Assignment 1 is your first writing assignment in the class in which you have to use APA. While both Assignment 1 and 2 are graded, Assignment 2 requires a much more empirical report of the literature surrounding effective interventions and provides a clear idea why some interventions are ineffective. So this report draws a clear and definitive picture of interventions effectiveness.
The reason these assignment are constructed in this manner is to give you multiple opportunities to do well on the assignment. Grading on Assignment 2 will be more critical because you have had the opportunity to complete a previous paper with some of the same content. As a result, the expectation is that your depth of knowledge, use of professional literature and APA style should be well developed.
Assignment 2 is also a Critical Task which means that you have to receive a passing score on this assignment in order to receive a grade for the class. If you do not receive a passing score on Assignment 2, then you will have to work with me to remediate the weaknesses identified in your submission. This often means a delay in receiving a grade for the course. Further, you will already have submitted feedback on Assignment 1 and will have useful feedback on, writing style, the use of APA and efficacy of interventions. So, in writing assignment 2 you will have the advantage of some feedback from a prior assignment.
The biggest difference in content between Assignment 1 and 2 is the depth of review or evidence from prior studies. In both assignments you are not to use personal pronouns or opinions but rather you should provide evidence from the professional literature. But, this level of analysis needs to be more extensive in Assignment 2.
Assignment #2 (See due date in the schedule file in Modules or Course Calendar) In this assignment you will identify 3 effective practices or interventions that have been proven in the professional literature to be effective with children with special needs and 3 ineffective practices used with this population. You can use the effective practices in Assignment 1, but your analysis of the professional literature needs to be thorough. You will also find 3 interventions or practices that have proven to be ineffective with this same population. Your analysis of both effective and ineffective practices needs to reflect the professional literature, not your opinion. .
These interventions may be academic or social and do not have to use only classroom examples, but can be from community and home settings as well. The ineffective strategies may be ineffective because of poor implementation or the theoretical foundation is flawed. You can use practices that you have seen used with children with special needs in any setting – not just the classroom, but you should provide some professional references and clear statements about why these interventions or practices are ineffective or inappropriate – not your opinion. So, you should have a final paper of no more than 5 pages (not counting reference pages) and containing 3 effective and 3 ineffective interventions or practices. These interventions do not need to be listed in any order – such as best to worst or good to the best. You will be able to use the content articles you selected for use in effective practices and practices in Assignment 1, but you will have to add to that the ineffective practices or interventions in order to write a group paper that examines the 3 most effective interventions and 3 ineffective classroom practices that are used with children with special needs. You should also explain why you selected the three most ineffective strategies. This need not be a lengthy discussion but you must provide a coherent explanation as to why you consider them ineffective. You must receive a score of at least 80% in order to pass the class, If you receive a score of less than 80%, you will have to work with the instructor in order to complete a remedial program for this assignment.
Again, this paper should be focused around the professional literature- not your opinion.
