  • Written Vignette Assignment: Mr. R

Answer the attached questions for the vignette below. Use the attached graded version w-comments and the rubic as a guide. Please include DSM-5 and APA ethics, and theorist books/articles as references and for citations. Note: Please see below for the comments on the practice paper for Paul. They might not show on the actual document so I typed them below for each page.

Mr. R is a 38-year old man referred for outpatient therapy by his primary care physician due to anger issues and increased stress at home and work. He lives with his partner of 12years, Ms. L, and their two children, ages 9 and 6.

Mr. R reports feeling constantly disrespected by others and states that people only listen when you raise your voice. He describes frequent verbal arguments with Ms. L, during which he admits to yelling, calling her useless and stupid and blocking her from leaving the room until the argument is resolved. He minimizes these behaviors, stalling, Ive never hit her, so I dont see what the big deal is.

Ms. L has recently started sleeping in a separate room. Mr. R reports that this makes him furious and that he has punched holes in the bedroom door during arguments. He denies intending to hurt anyone but says, Sometimes they need to see how serious I am.

At work, Mr. R has received two written warnings for aggressive behavior toward coworkers. He reports one incident where he shoved a coworker who got in his face, resulting in no serious injury. He frames this as self-defense and says, If I didnt stand my ground, Id be a target.

Mr. R also reports a history of physical discipline in his own childhood, stating his father used a belt, but thats just how things were back then. He admits that when his 9-year-old-son talks back, he has grabbed him by the arm hard enough to leave marks just to get his attention. He denies this is abusive and states, Kids today are too soft.

When asked about weapons, Mr. R reports owning several firearms that are locked away, though he keeps one handgun accessible in case someone breaks in. He denies any current plans to hurt anyone but states, If someone threatened my family, I wouldnt hesitate.

Mr. R denies suicidal ideation, psychotic symptoms, or substance misuse. He presents as tense during the session, with clenched fists and minimal eye contact, and becomes visibly irritated when discussing limits or accountability.

Professor Comments for the Practice vignette for Paul w-comments:

Page 2 – No need to include an introduction, you can just start with Question 1: social psychology

Page 3 – Top paragraph – This is all on point, but please choose one theory from the field of social psychology and apply it to the case.

Page 3 – Under cognition and affect – 2nd paragraph – don write “in his/hers” anywhere in the document. I recommend separating these a section on affect and a section/paragraph on cognition.

Page 3- Same paragraph – where it reads (strategy of coping adopted by Paul.) – I recommend a clear theory from affective psychology and one from cognitive psychology.

Page 4 – where it reads (poor impulse control)- this section was on point, I might suggest a bit more detail about the biological components.

Page 5 – where it reads (baseline of reducing symptoms) – nice job on this section.

Page 5 – where it reads (and access to firearms through the law.) – For this section, frame it as questions you have about the case and clinical curiosities.

Page 5 – where it reads (viewed as corrective action) – Nice job

Page 6 – where it reads (Paul a person with a high risk of continuous risk evaluation) – Yes, thank you for mentioning the continuity piece.

Page 6 – where it reads (reporting might be based on the case when Paul presents specific persons with credible) – I recommend more detail here about potential tarasoff/duty to warn reporting.

Page 7 – where it reads (but not diagnosis, yet) – nice job

Page 7 – where it reads (express emotions and seek out help) – Nice job. Professors asked, Anything else you can add here? Check out APA practice guidelines for LGBTQ populations and discuss a few things that stand out.

Page 7 – where it reads (limit the use of alcohol) – Include safety wording in the list with everything else.

Page 8 – Under Interventions – These are all on point, I just suggest a bit more details.

Page 8 – where it reads (by highlighting the existing value) – I recommend including a humanistic theorist or two specifically, Carl Rogers or Maslow.

  • Case Study 5

    Case Study 5

The case study assignment for Module 6 draws on the following textbook case:

Case 22: LMVH in 2016: Its Diversification into Luxury Goods, by John E. Gamble (page C-290):

    Case Summary: LVMH in 2016

By 2016, LVMH had grown from a 2.5 billion company in 1990 to a 35.7 billion empire. The case explores the “paradox” of managing 70 distinct luxury brands while maintaining the exclusivity of each.

    1. The Portfolio Structure

Arnault organized the company into six distinct business groups to manage the diverse portfolio:

    • Wines & Spirits: (Mot & Chandon, Hennessy, Krug)
    • Fashion & Leather Goods: (Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Marc Jacobs)
    • Perfumes & Cosmetics: (Christian Dior, Guerlain, Sephoras own brand)
    • Watches & Jewelry: (Bulgari, TAG Heuer, Hublot)
    • Selective Retailing: (Sephora, DFS/Duty-Free)
    • Other Activities: (Royal Van Lent yachts, Belmond hotels, media)

    2. Strategic Themes: “Star Brands” vs. “Rising Stars”

A central theme of the 2016 case is Arnault’s classification of his portfolio:

    • Star Brands: These are the pillars like Louis Vuitton and Dior. They are “timeless,” highly profitable, and provide the cash flow needed to fuel the rest of the conglomerate.
    • Rising Stars: Newer acquisitions or smaller houses (like Nicholas Kirkwood or Edun) that LVMH attempts to scale using the group’s massive distribution and marketing power.

    3. The Diversification Strategy (Strategic Fit)

The case examines why LVMH is successful as a multi-business corporation. It highlights Related Diversification through:

    • Shared Expertise: Transferring top designers and managers across different “Maisons.”
    • Market Power: Using the size of the group to secure the best retail locations in global cities.
    • Product Quality & Craftsmanship: A shared corporate value that ensures “Made in France” or “Made in Italy” prestige across all segments.

Key Financials & Challenges in the Case (2015-2016)

    • Performance: In 2015, LVMH set records with a 16% growth in revenue and operating profit.
    • Geopolitical Impact: The case notes a slowdown in early 2016 due to terrorism in Europe, which drastically reduced tourism and luxury spending in Paris and Brussels.
    • Underperformers: The case discusses the rare decision to divest brands that did not meet the “Star Brand” criteria, such as the sale of Donna Karan (DKNY) in 2016 for $650 million.

Critical Thinking Questions for the Case

If you are preparing for your MBA at Eastern University, you will likely be asked to apply the “Three Tests of Diversification” from Chapter 8 to this case:

    1. Attractiveness Test: Is the luxury goods industry structurally attractive?
    2. Cost-of-Entry Test: Was the price paid for brands like Bulgari (or later, Tiffany) too high to allow for a good return?
    3. Better-Off Test: Is a brand like Celine or Givenchy truly better off under LVMH than it would be on its own?

Read the case and then respond to the case questions given below.

In addition to using the case study provided in the textbook, research the company further to find any relevant events that have transpired since the writing of the case study. Use the company’s website, Internet search engines such as Google, online data services, or other sources to locate the latest articles about the company including press releases and current financial information. Be sure to cite all sources according to guidelines.

Note: For assistance with analyzing any financial data in this case, Table 4-1 (Key Financial Ratios: How to Calculate Them and What They Mean) in your textbook is a useful reference.

Please limit your analysis to 4 pages (1000 to 1100 words), double-spaced.

Students please note: Feel free to bring in any recent news or current events concerning this company into your answer.

    Case Questions

    1. As detailed in the case, LVMH has achieved business success leveraging a diversification strategy. What strategic approach do you think was the most influential contributor to LVMH success? Be both detailed and expansive in your response.
    2. What is the relevance of shareholder value-chain activities in consideration of the acquisition of a related business diversification? Be descriptive and expansive in your response.
    3. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of achieving diversification by acquisition of an existing business. How did LVMH use this business acquisition strategy in efforts to expand and diversify the company portfolio?
    4. While focused upon the luxury good marketplace, LVMH did not focus only on one product, but on a great number of products and services. In executing such perspectives did LVMH have a diversification strategy that was too broad in scope and/or potentially cumbersome? Why or why not?

    Environmental Hazards

Increase in Environment Related Health Hazards in Recent Years

The study of environmental health is crucial to one’s understanding of the hazards and potential adverse effects posed by environmental agents and the extent to which environmental factors play a role in human disease. This foundation is essential for being an effective advocate for preventing environmentally caused diseases and for more advanced study of environmental health issues.

Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research on the topic, “Health Hazards Caused Due to the Environment in the Recent Past.”

On the basis of your research and understanding of the topic, create a response of approximately 750 words (not counting title page and references) that addresses the following questions:

    • Discuss one type of environmental health problem that you have in your own community.
    • Explain how you can determine whether you are exposed to increased levels of environmental hazards in your home.
    • Identify and explain the types of associations found between environmental hazards and health outcomes.
    • Explain a relationship between exposure to a hazard in the environment and degenerative brain disease, such as Alzheimer.
    • Explain why children are more vulnerable to environmental toxins than adults. What types of policies are needed to protect vulnerable populations from environmental hazards?

    Submission Details
