  • World War I

For this Discussion post, you will revisit Ch. 35 in the textbook and its discussion of WWI (occurred from 1914 to 1918), then you will review the following sources that will show you the variety of artifacts that exist from WWI: “Artifacts of the Great War Links to an external site.” from the Smithsonian Magazine Review the collections from The National WWI Museum and Memorial Links to an external site. University of North Texas, “The Lost Generation: World War I Poetry: World War I Artifacts” Links to an external site. US Army Corps of Engineers: “Army Engineers in the Great War–Artifacts Links to an external site.” (click on the numbers at the bottom to see all of the artifacts) The Postal Museum: “Postcards from the First World War Links to an external site.” (postcards are amazing artifacts that can include photographs, poems, and silk embroidered postcards). WWI artifacts can come in many forms: machinery/gear/equipment, fighting tools/weaponry, photographs, letters or postcards, military badges, uniforms, literature, etc…. Pick your own from your own research! Next, answers the following questions about the WWI artifact that you have selected from the above (or your own sources). Provide the following information about the artifact: What type of artifact have you selected, and what is the name/title of the artifact? If it is a piece of art, the title should be in italics. For example, the painting The Scream by Edvard Munch would have the title of the painting in italics. Who is the artist or creator of this artifact? In what year was this artifact created? Remember, if the date is estimated, then use c. or ca. for circa. What is the subject of the artifact? For example, a photo’s subject could be a family or building; a map’s subject could be a historical site. Be as specific as possible! What is the form of the artifact? What does it look like? Describe it to your fellow students who have not seen it. How does this artifact help us understand WWI? Does it allow us to understand the war from different perspectives (e.g. soldiers, loved ones, health care workers, government officials, etc…)? Does the artifact make your feel empathy for those who endured WWI? You may have to do a bit of research for some of these questions–just make sure everything is in your own words. Supply a link OR copy/paste an image of your artifact.

  • Unit 4

For this assignment, you will critically analyze the potential for nonresponse error in the survey instrument you drafted in Week 3. Your analysis should be presented in a 2-page paper, formatted in current APA style, and should address the following: Likely Sources of Nonresponse: Identify and explain at least three specific factors that could lead to nonresponse (both unit and item nonresponse) in your Week 3 survey, considering your target population and chosen data collection method. Provide a rationale for why these factors are likely to be significant. Strategies to Minimize Nonresponse and Bias: Propose at least three practical and ethically sound strategies to minimize nonresponse rates and potential nonresponse bias in your survey. These strategies should be specific and justified based on the literature and your understanding of your target population. Examples include offering incentives, employing specific follow-up procedures, or carefully timing survey administration. Ethical Implications: Discuss the ethical considerations related to nonresponse in your survey. How might nonresponse affect the representativeness of your sample and the validity of your findings? Consider issues of fairness, inclusion, and the potential for marginalized voices to be underrepresented.
