  • chemistry question

A compound A has the molecular formula CHBr.

When A is treated with sodium ethoxide in ethanol, the major product formed is B, which shows two distinct signals in the H NMR spectrum (excluding solvent and impurity peaks).

When A is reacted with silver nitrate in aqueous ethanol, a different product C is formed rapidly, and a precipitate is observed.

    a) Propose a reasonable structure for compound A, justifying your answer using the given data.

    b) Identify compounds B and C, giving full reaction mechanisms for their formation.

    c) Explain why the reaction of A with sodium ethoxide proceeds via a different mechanism compared to its reaction with silver nitrate in aqueous ethanol.

    d) Predict the outcome if A were reacted with potassium tert-butoxide in tert-butanol, and justify your answer with reference to steric and kinetic factors.

    e) State and explain the effect of these reactions on the stereochemistry of the product(s), where applicable

    .Chapter 1

What is a court case? What are the components of a case brief?

What if you somebody asked if you to explain why the rule of law is important and you responded by saying what would the country look like if there were no rule of law? Do you think this reply would be adequate? Explain.

    Chapter 1

Shaw notes that no one can foresee every way in which the wickedness of man may disrupt the order of society. Thus, no matter how detailed the criminal code, gaps or loopholes will always remain through which a wrongdoer may escape punishment. Can we plug these loopholes with a catch-all statute that provides: Notwithstanding the specific provisions of this Code, any act which is deserving of punishment according to sound popular feeling of the community shall be punished.? What could be fairer than to allow the defendant to go before a jury, tell his or her story, and trust the jury (the defendants peers) to judge whether or not the defendant acted properly? Doesnt faith in the jury system and trust of our fellow citizens suggest that we should submit ourselves to the judgment of the community, rather than hide behind legal technicalities? Or, is the system broken (in this regard) from your perspective? Please expound.

    Chapter 2

List the different processes for charging a defendant.

This week’s WTE assignment can be found on pages 46 – 53 of your textbook. This assignment focuses on the Spanish conquest.

    Weighing the Evidence (WTE) Assignments

    Overview

Weighing the Evidence (WTE) assignments ask you, the student, to demonstrate your skills as a historian by analyzing primary sources to answer a larger historical question. Using textual interpretation, chronological reasoning, visual analysis, and pattern detection, you will consider the question and formulate a response based on the sources. This is not about having an opinion, but about developing a conclusion with supporting evidence.

WTE assignments are included in Modules 2-6 and Modules 8-14. Each student must complete THREE WTE assignments of their choice during the semester; one in Modules 2-5, one in Modules 6-10, and one in Modules 11-14. The student may choose which assignment to complete in each assignment group. If more than three assignments are completed over the course of the semester, only the three highest grades in each group will be counted towards the final grade.

    Course Learning Objectives

    1. Communication: Northwest students will demonstrate the role of writing and speaking in living and learning.
    2. Critical Thinking: Northwest students will engage in disciplined thought to generate and communicate ideas.
    3. Managing Information: Northwest students will locate, retrieve, organize, store, synthesize, and annotate various forms of information.
    4. Valuing: Northwest students will demonstrate the formation and context of values.
    5. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Northwest students will be culturally competent citizens who engage comfortably with difference.

    Instructions

    1. Identify the question(s) being asked. Each WTE assignment asks you to consider an overarching question and supporting questions. They are typically located under the Your Turn heading. Keep these questions in mind during Step 2. To access the WTE and sources online:
      1. Go to the module reading assignment. Click the assignment to open, and then load in a new tab. On the left hand side, click on “Table of Contents” and then click “Open full eBook.”
      2. Locate the correct chapter at left and click the right arrow to expand the chapter contents. Scroll to the bottom and click on “Weighing the Evidence” to begin reading the key context and provided sources.
    2. Prepare and Assess: After reading the associated chapter and using the related lecture(s) for context, read the primary evidence provided in your textbook.
      • Use the questions listed after each document to guide your assessment of each individual document.
      • Decide how each document addresses the larger question.
      • No outside sources or research is necessary. All the necessary documents are provided for you.
    3. Organize and Outline: Organize your analysis of each document by placing the documents into categories or groups based on how each one addresses the larger question(s). Outline your paper to organize your evidence. Your essay should include:
      • an introduction with a thesis statement,
      • evidence in support of your position,
      • acknowledgement of the alternative position, and
      • a conclusion which summarizes your position.
    4. Write: Write a brief paper of no more than 750 words (about two pages). Your final paper must:
      • Have a clear thesis statement which communicates your response to the question(s) asked.
      • Include specific, cited evidence.
        • Evidence does NOT mean using only direct quotations. Summary is welcome and demonstrates a greater understanding of the document contents. Summarize the document information for your evidence when possible.
        • Any information from the provided sources should be cited immediately after use. You can cite the individual documents simply by identifying their evidence number and page number in parentheses. Example citation: (Document 13.2, 610)
      • Be well-organized and coherent. Your writing should be purposeful and succinct. Avoid tangents and unnecessary filler words.
      • Be original. Your paper should reflect your own analysis and conclusions. Using AI or online essay generators to complete this assignment violates the Code of Academic Integrity and can have serious consequences.

    General Reminders

    1. Read the Question Carefully: Ensure you understand what is being asked before writing your answer. If you are unsure or the question is unclear, ask for help!
    1. Address All Parts of the Question: Many questions have multiple parts. You must address them all adequately.
    2. Be Concise: Stick to the point and avoid unnecessary elaboration. Do not use excessive quotations from the documents. Summarize where possible.
    3. Be Specific: Generalizations are not helpful. The more specific your answer and your evidence, the more convincing it will be.
    4. Stay On Topic: Going off on a tangent can be easy. Always bring your answer back to what is directly relevant.
    5. Check Your Grammar and Spelling: Small errors can significantly impact how your answer is received. Proofread your work carefully.
    6. Review and Revise: If time allows, set your answers aside for a short period and then review them with fresh eyes for any errors or areas for improvement.

    Requirements: Essay Length
