  • Virginia Seymours article, Cultivating the Art of Slow Looki…

    Overview

In my experience when reading secondary sources talking about a reading (image), its important to pay attention to the structure and introduction, middle and conclusion of the article you are reading. The articles and essays should serve as a model for you to learn and emulate from the writers. You should take into consideration the writers argument and evidence of support the writer uses in unifying the piece of writing. When you are writing about a text/image you should provide a central focus and direction of your paper. Its a general rule to construct a thesis statement and it should leave no room for ambiguity. It should focus on a specific aspect of the topic rather than being overtly broad. An analytical thesis offers a critical interpretation or analysis of a topic or text/image. It should offer a claim that can be supported with textual evidence. A strong thesis statement clearly expresses the main argument or idea of the paper, providing a central focus and direction for the paper. It should be concise and supported with evidence. We will continue in the upcoming weeks to build on constructing theses and supporting your thesis with primary (Image) and secondary sources (Research). Please pay attention to the essence of what an analytical thesis should sound and look like, see below.
