    Narcan has helped to change the landscape of overdose. While still a public health issue, CDC data indicated that overdose deaths fell by roughly 21% to 24% in various 2025 reports, with expanded access to naloxone cited as a key factor in this decline. (1) Pennsylvania reported that from January through September 2025, nearly 9,500 overdoses were reversed using naloxone distributed through the state’s Overdose Prevention Program (2)

    Your job is to find Narcan. You do not need to purchase it (although you can, even on Amazon!). I want you to get it for Free so use the links. Use resources in this module or the internet to find Naloxone for FREE.

    The purpose of this assignment is to provide you with a lifesaving tool, illustrate a public health measure (aka free Naloxone) in our community, provide a way to evaluate how easy or hard it is to secure Naloxone. Just because you don’t think that a anyone you know does drugs, ou may be surprised or you may be in public and witness an overdose. Being prepared is as simple as having naloxone (Narcan) in your bag.

    Objectives

    1. Identify community resources and options for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of addiction, including effective evidence-based strategies (Obj 10)

    1. Use tools in this class to find Narcan. Sources in module 5A may help or use the internet. This is a great way to see how hard it is for someone not in the class to find free Narcan.
    2. Post a video of you and the Narcan. It can show you holding it, or if you are camera shy, it can be just the item while you tell us..

  • Interview a sports figure

    The Interview

    • Choose someone to interview who is in someway affiliated with sport or a sports organization (e.g., coach, athlete, sports writer, someone who works for a sports organization, etc.). Plan ahead and work with them to schedule the interview.
    • Before the interview, craft interview questions around your interviewees role, You are encouraged to do some external research on how to craft interview questions. Keep in mind that the questions you asked should be framed around your interviewee’s role. Below are some examples of broad questions you may ask although they may not be relevant to your interviewee. You may need to tailor your questions accordingly and let me know if you have any questions.
      • How did they get involved in their role?
      • How long have they been practicing their role?
      • What are some key issues they have observed in their organization as it relates to the sport industry over time?
      • What changes would they like to see in their industry?
      • What are some opportunities or changes they see impacting sport over the next 10 years?
    • Complete the interview. During the interview, keep detailed notes and/or ask your interviewee if you may record your interview. If they agree, you may want to use to transcribe your interview so that you have a full transcript to refer back to.

    The Critical Analysis Paper

    • Write a 3-4 page critical analysis paper about your interview. The paper should be divided into three sections: an introduction, body, and conclusion. In addition to the 3-4 pages, include a cover page, a reference page, and either (1) an appendix that includes your interview questions and interview notes, (2) or a separate documentwith your interview questions and interview notes.
      • Introduction: Provide an overview of the interviewee and their role in sport, how you connected with them, and what the major topics of conversation were during your interview.
      • Body: The bulk of the paper should focus on key or interesting interactions/happenings that you talked occurred during your interview. Select 2to 3 course concepts to apply to the conversation with your interviewee. As you apply your selected concepts, you should to accurately define and describe the concept and cite the textbook using APA formatting (in-text citation and reference page) in your paper. A recommend format to execute this is to describe the interaction, provide the definition of the concept you are applying, include an APA in-text citation, and provide an analysis of how your chosen concept may inform the interaction you observed.
      • Conclusion: Provide a summary of the course concepts you applied to the conversation with your interviewee. Include your own critical evaluation of how your knowledge of sport communication illuminated or provided you with a heightened understanding of the “findings” or interesting insights with your interviewee. Conclude your paper with 1 or 2 suggestions for how to expand future sports communication research based on what you learned from your conversation as supported by scholarly journal articles.
    • The critical analysis paper should be formatted using APA 7th edition formatting guidelines which includes a cover page, page numbers, and a reference page. You may include an appendix with your interview questions and notes or submit a separate document that includes these. You do not need an abstract.
    • Practice a collegiate writing style by using proper syntax, spelling, grammar, etc. Take time to revise your paper before submitting the final version.
  • Informational Interview

    • Determine 10 questions you can ask industry professionals. This has ideas.
    • Network to find 5 industry professionals willing to be interviewed. All must connect with the communication field . or be in the industry you want to work for.
    • Conduct 5 informational interviews that last 15-30 minutes.
    • Create a document with the following: The name and business of the 5 people you interviewed, Key takeaways and insights gained. Use guidelines of business writing in creating your document.

    This final integration assignment is designed to help you synthesize key concepts from the course. Your final response should be approximately 550-700 words (about 2 – 2.5 pages double-spaced) and must reference at least four of the course concepts we discussed.

    • Analysis: How does the emotional climate impact the individual’s well-being and job satisfaction?
    • Recommendation: Based on your analysis, propose a specific and practical strategy that could be used to improve the emotional climate or well-being in that situation. Justify your recommendation using course concepts.
