Research Topic: Identifying a Problem Assignment Instructions

    Overview

Applied research candidates must have consent to proceed with a research topic to ensure the topic meets applied research guidelines. This assignment serves as a start to identifying a topic through exploring the problem. Though your topic may need to change as you discover new information, it is best to solidify your topic as soon as possible.

    Instructions

You must have official consent to proceed with your research topic to conduct your research. This assignment starts the process by identifying a problem to research. For this assignment, you must include your degree cognate. While doctoral students are encouraged to align their doctoral research study topic with their degree programs (i.e. Curriculum and Instruction) or specializations/concentrations/cognates (i.e. Educational Psychology), the requirement is that their research topic falls within the discipline/field of education.

For this assignment, you will submit a topic that meets all applied research guidelines. See pages 3 to 30 in the Claxton and Michael (2023) textbook. The problem to solve or practice to improve must exist at the intended site. You are required to use the templates provided in the assignment. Use the checklists within the chapters to ensure success. The topic will be submitted for final approval for EDUC 816 in Consent to Proceed with Research Topic Assignment. The assignment must use correct spelling and grammar throughout with no errors that distract the reader and follow current APA format.

    My Degree & Cognate

    Title of Proposed Research Study

    Problem Statement

Later in the semester you will add more to this assignment and seek full approval. This assignment is meant to have you start thinking and conceptualizing your core elements of your research.

Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.

  • Education & Teaching Question

Imagine you have just received your certification and are taking on your first trainee within your organization who is working towards certification. Based on the BACB guidelines and the Ethics code, and this week’s lecture, create a task analysis that you will follow to set up the supervisory relationship prior to your first supervision meeting with this trainee. What things must be in place before you begin? Are there any conditions under which will you not proceed with the supervisory relationship?

The assigned reading is chapter 2 in our text; therefore, please be sure to include this as a reference, in addition to at least one independently sources peer-reviewed article.

Remember to review the Reflection Paper rubric and instructions for reviewing a peer’s submission in the Important Course Information module.

Additionally, please include LINKS or DOIs to any articles or books referenced outside of the assigned readings as part of your APA citation (). Failing to do so will result in point deductions.
