    ETHICAL FRAMEWORKS ESSAY ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS

    OVERVIEW

This assignment requires you to compare two ethical frameworks and to argue for which

framework is strongest. You will write a 7001000-word essay (not including footnotes, the title

page, table of contents, and bibliography) that combines your insights and arguments into a

single carefully-articulated work. Format should be 12pt, Times New Roman font and in one of

the three major writing styles (MLA, APA, or Turabian). A template will be provided.

    INSTRUCTIONS

Now that you have learned about competing ethical theories write a 7001000-word essay that

compares and contrasts two theories, identifying which theory more closely aligns with a

Christian worldview and which theory challenges this understanding. You may choose from any

ethical framework we have covered in the course Relativism, Utilitarianism, Egoism, Duty

Ethics, Virtue Ethics, Natural Law, and Divine Command. Remember that some of these

frameworks have much in common with a Christian ethic, so you should be mindful of making

important distinctions. For example, pay attention to how a Christian ethic would interpret

concepts like virtue, law, or duty in comparison to other popular models we have covered

so far. The textbooks will be extremely helpful in this regard.

Your paper should be divided into four sections and must meet the minimum word count for

each section (not including citations, bibliography).

    1) In your view, what is a Christian approach to ethics? Is it primarily a duty ethic, virtue ethic,

natural law ethic, divine command ethic, or some combination of them? To answer this

question, consider its sources of authority, how it is grounded, how it defines goodness, and

any strengths or weaknesses it has. (minimum 200 words)

    2) What alternative ethical framework poses the greatest challenge to a Christian ethic (e.g.,

Relativism, Utilitarianism, Egoism, Duty Ethics, Virtue Ethics, Natural Law, or even some

variation of Divine Command)? To answer this question, define what the theory is and its

sources of authority. Also, consider how it defines goodness, any strengths or weaknesses it

has, and similarities it shares with a Christian ethic. (minimum 200 words)

    3) Which framework is stronger? In other words, which theory has greater explanatory power

and is more defensible (philosophically/theologically/morally/historically)? Explain your

    answer (minimum 300 words)

    4) Bibliography. Remember, your citations and bibliography do not count toward the 1000-

e sure to carefully define your terms, articulate the strengths and weaknesses of each theory,

and defend your position. You are expected to support your position with rational arguments,

fitting examples, and expert sources. Any quotes or information used from sources other than

yourself must be cited. Summarize whenever possible and do not use large quotations. You will

be evaluated for conciseness and accuracy.

You will be penalized for falling short or exceeding the word count. This is a university-

level writing assignment and therefore it must be carefully proofread, free of grammar, spelling,

and punctuation errors. Do not use slang, emoticons, or abbreviations (as if you are texting or

sending an email to a friend).

You are expected to cite at least two of the textbooks and at least two external, academic

sources in your essay. These external sources would include books, journal articles, periodicals,

and similar publications. You may use online sources, but DO NOT use websites such as

Wikipedia, online dictionaries, online encyclopedias, and blogs as these do not count as

academic sources and should not be used. Biblical references are encouraged but will not count

    as an academic source.

All citations, whether parenthetical or footnotes, should include a page number for

accuracy. For APA use the author-year-page format (Author, Year, p. #). For MLA, use the

author-page format (Author p#). For Turabian, use footnotes that include page numbers.

Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.

  • Business Question

Guidance – Start writing your paper with these enumerated requirements in mind:

    A) Include a title page but no Table of Contents and divide your paper into six heading sections per item C. Formatting and choice of font are at the discretion of the student as long as the presentation is well done, but single spacing or double spacing and a minimum of an 11-pitch font are recommended. Note in the list below that titled heading sections are required. The target length for each paper is between 4,000 and 6,000 words (there is a potential grading penalty for undershooting lower boundary but no penalty for exceeding upper boundary) in a way that effectively discusses each books contributions to PM and interesting similarities and differences between books. B) No use of outside sources is allowed, so no outside citations are allowed. Few quotations should be used. The focus is on paraphrasing from books. Citations may be handled using any well-established citation method such as APA. For all content, its understood you either quoted/paraphrased from a course book or the ideas are your own. Any use of undocumented, unallowed secondary resources may result in FSU Honor Code violation and lowering of the grade. Turnitin will be used by the instructor to monitor potentially improper use of non-allowed content. C) In your paper, be sure to use the following six titled sections followed by targeted content in each section:

I.Introduction- Introduction of the 4 books and the focus of the paper as comparing and contrasting each books relevance to project management

  • Stress impact on children and families in educational progra…

For this assignment, you will interview two program staff members and one parent to learn about how stress affects children and families. You will analyze their responses and reflect on how stress impacts childrens learning and development. You will also explore how programs help reduce stress for children and families. Interview Program Staff 1. How is stress discussed in your work setting? Mostly through side conversations with coworkers. We support each other, but theres no real system for addressing it. 2. How does your program teach staff about stress and its impact on children? How often? Briefly during occasional trainings. Its not consistent or ongoing. 3. Three biggest stressors for childrens learning and development: Large class sizes, emotional needs coming from home, and difficulty with self-regulation and transitions. 4. Biggest stressor for adults (staff and families): Too many responsibilities and not enough time or support. 5. Parts of the program that may add to stress: Rigid schedules, limited time to build relationships, inconsistent behavior responses, minimal staff stress support, and expectations that dont fit all kids. 6. What supports reduce stress for children and adults? Art as an outlet, calming spaces, supportive coworkers, and small wellness efforts like the massage chair. 7. What works best? Whats still hard? Relationships and creative expression help most. Class size, behavior challenges, and constant multitasking are still overwhelming. Interview Parent Reflective Analysis After completing the interviews, write a reflective analysis to summarize and think critically about the answers you received. In your analysis, you should: Identify key stressors that staff and parents said affect childrens learning and development, and how the program addresses these. Compare and contrast the views of the staff and the parent. What stressors do they experience? How do they express stress in the program? How do they handle it? Evaluate the support the program provides to reduce stress. What works well, and what is still challenging? Research 2 community programs with services that may aid families and educators in addressing these stressors. Conduct a website search, call for additional information as needed to ensure a good fit. Include a description of the programs and services, and why you selected these options. You may also discuss gaps in services that are needed but not available in the area. Think about the importance of understanding stress in educational or community programs. How does stress affect childrens learning and family well-being? Consider the role of the program in managing stress. How does understanding stress change the way you think about child development and how programs can help families? What did you learn by comparing the answers from the staff and the parent? Did anything surprise you or help you understand stress better Submission Requirements: Submit a written analysis. This is typically about 4-6 pages double-spaced. Provide a brief introduction to your interview participants (staff and parents) and describe the program setting. Please leave a spot in the essay and just put insert brief introduction here so that I know where to add this into the essay. The analysis should include using specific examples from the interviews and citations from the textbook Chapters 4 and 5 to back up your reflections.

  • Black Studies and political suppression of marginalized curr…

Choose ONE of the questions below to answer. Your response should be 300-400 words. Please cite your quoted or paraphrased examples from the materials or other sources using MLA or Chicago citation guidelines. You are welcome to respond to other students’ posts (respectfully and thoughtfully)! What is the significance of recent laws and policies restricting the teaching of Black Studies and other curricula centering marginalized groups? Reading between the lines of the Vox article, the report on Trump’s recent executive orders, and the essays on the foundations of Black Studies, what do you think are the real catalysts behind political attempts to suppress these programs? The essays of Anderson and Stewart and Fenderson et al. give us a broad history of how the field of Black Studies evolved since its founding in the late 1960s. Part of their respective analyses include student-centered push for university administrations to expand not only academic content but access for marginalized racial groups (to resources, professional jobs, relevant curricula, etc.). Nearly 60 years later, some departments (and their students) continue to fight for these things. Do you think that it is important to draw connections between past and present struggles, namely in defense of Black Studies?
