People and Risk Paper Assignment Instructions

    Overview

This assignment is designed to allow the student to grapple with the relationship between people, risk, and security. The paper is focused on an industry to give a larger scope to the analysis and allow for a broader look at human resource management as it relates to that industry. Each industry deals with different types of risk, so choosing an industry to consider broadens the aperture from items within a particular organization to now a grouping of organizations in a particular field. This risk management plan allows the student to consider governance, helping raise the discussion to a more strategic level. It also should help the student understand the limitations to their own planning ability at this scale, allowing for specific gaps to be identified, especially as they relate to people within the chosen industry. No planning is perfect, and being able to identify gaps is essential to understanding risk management.

    Instructions

The student will write a paper that focuses on the relationship between people, risk, and security. Specifically, the student will choose a particular industry to analyze, build a risk management plan, and evaluate the effectiveness of that plan as it pertains to that industrys human resources.

  • Macro Economics Question

The primary aim of Assignment is to provide you with an opportunity to survey the scientific literature on economic growth and design a policy for the UAE based on your research. Your aim is to better understand the scientific research on an important growth determinant, and then propose a policy recommendation for your country.

You will have to produce a 2000-2500 word research paper. A research paper involves conducting individual background research on a topic, discussing your findings, summarizing the key ideas, and then communicating those ideas effectively.

This topic is going to be investigated:

    1. The Effects of Saving and Investment of Growth.

    Part 1:

Briefly introduce the topic. What do you expect the effect to be? (200-250 words)

    Part 2:

You will use at least FOUR different resources to summarize the theoretical and the empirical literature on the topic. At least three of the sources must be scholarly (i.e., a peer reviewed paper, academic book chapter). The other source can be non-scholarly (e.g., popular blogs or media, such as The New York Times). You are expected to communicate your ideas clearly and summarize your findings in an efficient manner (1000-1500 words).

    Part 3:

You will design a policy recommendation for the UAE based on your research and your findings . Describe the policy recommendation and explain how it will influence economic growth and development. (500 words)

    Part 4:

Using the Solow Growth Model, explain how your suggested policy affects economic growth. Make sure you support your discussion with graphs. (250-500 words)

    EXTRA NOTES FROM THE PROFESSOR

Think at the country level (not individual level).

One policy = One clear action only.

Part 3 must connect directly to Part 4.

Solow Model must align with the policy.
Goal of the policy = Increase production (Y).

    PART 1

Explain why you chose the topic. Use economic concepts. Before reading articles, explain what you expect the relationship to be. Mention: Positive effects Possible or negative effects and Why.

A sentence when I tell him what is the relationship between a Saving and Investment and the growth

    PART 3

for example in the gathering information from part 2, for a positive effect or negative effect, and design a policy how it affect Saving and Investment and influence the growth. We are going to apply this policy which is going to focus on saving Just make a one action and define it properly.

    One policy = one action.

    PART 4

How the policy that I made is going to change the graph. I need a graph that uses the old aspect, and the changed after the policy, and explain the graph, how it shifted and have been changed.

No need numbers in the graphs, x axis and y axis.

We need to explain the graph very well, as if the reader dont know anything.

In the end, the goal of the policy should be to increase production, and the graph should shift upward.

One graph needed, with the old aspect and new aspect of lines, put different lines with its own color so it be clear the old and the new from before the policy and action and after, so it be clear with the shift.

Saving and investment could be used as a technology in the policy, when ppl save money, they could interfere into technology, but the topic of inequality shouldnt bc applied to the technology.

Capital is K, labor is L, capital and labor is K/L

    Y is outcome

    A is Technology

#1 Forum Discussion: One Day in Auschwitz Documentary

After watching the required viewing, One Day in Auschwitz documentary this week about the experience of the concentration camps during the Nazi regime , (this was the biggest death camp and crematorium in Poland), you can post a brief reaction, commentary, response and/or feedback here on Kitty’s experience. You can post any questions, associations, remarkable observations, things you are curious about. This forum will count as extra credit and will engage discussion with the class.

Trigger warning: the documentary tells the story of an Auschwitz survivor and it is told in a very user-friendly manner- However, it narrates events that affect human sensibility and viewer discretion is advised. (This is material that is typically used in high-schools and colleges and is geared for educational purposes).

#2 Forum 4: What is Collective trauma? What is Cultural Trauma? (Alexander et al) – Weekly Forum Team 9

This week we will focus on Jeff Alexander’s (one of my brilliant mentors at UCLA, presently at Yale, master of Cultural Sociology in the United States) chapter on Cultural Trauma and Identity (2004). How can we study the memory of historic trauma? What are the tools and perspectives? (I will engage the piece in my weekly discussion- please review my slides/audiovisual commentary). If you want to know a bit more about collective memory and its sociological masters, read the NYT review Kai Erikson’s (son of developmental psychologist Erik Erikson) classic 1976 work on disaster sociology on the Buffalo Creek man-made disaster (supplementary reading). It is still remarkably insightful and prescient, especially for those of you interested in effects of natural disasters/climate change nowadays. What is cultural trauma– how do we define it in order to conduct our own explorations/scholarly research/professional practice? What is cultural trauma? How is it different than collective or social trauma? Why is this important? How might we approach the study of the socio-cultural cases we are interested in? (thinking of your own project ahead)

Please follow Workbook 4 questions and reflect briefly on your own responses to the readings in this forum.

    #3 Journal 4 (Workbook 4)

    1) Identify and briefly discuss a historical-cultural experience of trauma and 2) identify one cultural expression, representation or manifestation ( post examples on Forum 4 post).

    3) write a brief reflection on how you have come to (re) understand these experience/s as collective and/or cultural trauma. Explain how the example/s you chose and their cultural representations you know of may help remember and transmit the story.

Write a brief sentence or statement about your ACTS OF KINDNESS/Acts of Solidarity practice (at least 2-3 days) on the outcome here 4.

  • Life orientation 2026 assignment.

it is a grade 11 assignment that has a duration of 7 days and requires research
  • A1-Reflective Summary

    Context and background

Organisations increasingly communicate a commitment to social purpose. However, not all purpose claims translate into genuine strategic value or substantial social impact. This essay requires you to critically analyse how a chosen organisation defines, embeds, and leverages social purpose as part of its business strategy, while evaluating the authenticity of its claims and the extent of internal alignment between leadership intent, organisational culture, and operational execution.

    Assessment Learning Outcomes

By completing this assessment, students will be able to:

    • Critically assess whether organisational social purpose is strategically embedded or merely symbolic
    • Apply theory to real organisations to evaluate social impact and competitive advantage
    • Judge the authenticity and internal alignment of purpose claims
    • Develop evidence-based, ethically grounded recommendations
    • Strengthen strategic thinking, critical writing, and professional judgement

    The Task

Select one organisation of your choice and write a research-based critical essay addressing the following dimensions:

    About the organization

    1. Organisation name, sector, and core business activities
    2. Geographic scope (local/regional/global)
    3. Ownership type (public, private, hybrid, etc.)
    4. Key stakeholders affected by the organisations social purpose claims

    Business Model Snapshot

    1. How the organisation primarily creates and captures value
    2. Key products or services
    3. Primary customer segments

    Defining Social Purpose

    1. How is social purpose articulated in the organisations vision, mission, and strategy?
    2. Is purpose central to the business model or peripheral?

The Business Case for Social Impact

    1. How does social purpose contribute to competitive advantage, differentiation, or brand equity?
    2. Use relevant theories (e.g., stakeholder theory, shared value).

    Stakeholder Theory

    1. Stakeholder Theory argues that a firms success depends on how well it creates and manages value for all stakeholders, including employees, customers, suppliers, communities, and shareholders, rather than focusing solely on shareholder profit maximization.

    Shared Value

    1. Shared Value refers to business strategies that simultaneously generate economic value for the firm and social value for society by addressing social or environmental problems through the firms core activities and competitive positioning.
    2. Critically evaluate whether social impact enhances long-term value creation rather than short-term reputational gains.

Authenticity and the Risk of Purpose-Washing

    1. Critically evaluate whether the organisations social purpose is genuine or symbolic.
    2. Identify gaps (if any) between communication and operational practice.

    Recommednations

This section requires you to translate your critical analysis into strategic, evidence-based recommendations aimed at strengthening the organisations social purpose, authenticity, and internal alignment.

Recommendations should be realistic, clearly linked to identified weaknesses, and demonstrate strategic judgment rather than idealistic aspirations.

    Research Expectations

    • Peer-reviewed academic sources
    • Corporate sustainability or impact reports
    • Brand communications and campaigns
    • Independent media, NGO, or third-party evaluations

    Table of contents

    Table of Contents

    1. Executive Summary
    2. Organisation Overview
    3. Business Model Overview
    4. Social Purpose and Strategy

    6. Authenticity and Internal Alignment
    7. Critical Analysis and Discussion
    8. Recommendations
    9. References

    Important note

This assessment does not require direct access to an organisation. You are expected to rely on secondary data sources, including public corporate reports, brand communications, academic literature, and independent third-party sources. The objective is to critically analyse how social purpose is articulated and enacted, not to verify internal operational data.

  • Statistical regression forecasting

This week and next, your studies focus on using statistical regression to forecast future demand. Begin your studies in the Content section of the classroom by completing the reading and viewing assignments. As was the case last week, do not try to complete this homework assignment without understanding the concepts involved with forecasting using statistical regression. Once you have a good understanding of how regression works, download the attached Excel Template onto your computer. You will use this template for your assignment during the next two weeks (Weeks 6 and 7). Begin by opening the Excel File and read through the Scenario at the top of the page, then notice there are tabs at the bottom of the workbook that constitute your homework assignment. There are three different Task-groups for you to work on over the next two weeks. Next, take a look at each section in the Excel book and scroll down through the spreadsheet, you will notice in the far left column, there are several tasks for you to complete on each tab. Pace yourself and get some of the assignment done in the first week; it can be dangerous to leave all of this homework for week 7. Next, hyperlinked directly below are several YouTube videos that will aid you in completing the assignment tasks. They are all short (under 10 minutes), so watch them all in succession before you start your homework. Then, as you start each Tab in the Excel Workbook, keep a copy of the appropriate video handy, each assignment almost exactly mirrors these videos; albeit with different scenarios.
