  • Rhetorical Analysis of The State Finally Letting Teens Sleep…

Read the article, “” This article explores how California is attempting to improve teen mental health by delaying school start times and allowing teens to sleep later. Write a rhetorical analysis of this article. Your analysis should do the following:

    2. Analyze HOW the author attempts to achieve his purpose. What rhetorical techniques does he/she use to help support his argument. You may consider techniques like organization, logos, ethos, pathos, kairos, assumptions, voice. You should analyze at LEAST TWO rhetorical features.

    3. Evaluate whether or not the author achieved his/her purpose. Was the argument balanced and effective enough to convince the reader that it is valid. Don’t just state that the argument was/wasn’t effective. Support your evaluation with evidence from the essay.

You will find yourself referring to the essay throughout your summary, analysis and evaluation. You can quote directly, but paraphrasing the essay is also effective. Make sure you cite the essay at the end of your analysis using APA format.

If you refer to the article specifically in your analysis you should cite any quote or paraphrase with the author and the date. Example: In her article, “, Lewis (2022) claims that returning to normal after the pandemic has been harder than expected. You can also simply put (Lewis 2022) at the end of a direct quote or paraphrase.

Your essay should be 250-500 words long. Use the sample analysis of “” from last week and the information from Chapter 6 in Everything’s an Argument as your guides.
