    Students will work in groups of 2 to 3 to write a collaborative research paper. If a student cannot find a partner or partners, the instructor will make assignments. Groups will choose a topic from those listed and submit as an assignment for Module 2. Additional assignments related to your topic of choice will begin in Module 3 of the course. If the group would like to work on a topic that is not listed, you must receive approval from the course faculty. All papers must focus on nursing research. Quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research from peer-reviewed, referenced journal articles or books must be used to support your arguments.

    Each group is required to have at least 6 research articles related to the topic of choice. The articles must be cited in-text of your final paper submission, and must be included in the reference list. All citations and references should follow APA 7th edition formatting. Journal articles should not be greater than 10 years old unless they are historical, groundbreaking research.

    Upon submission of the paper, each group member will complete a peer evaluation for other group members. Peer evaluation will account for 10% of the 100 points. For this reason, it is important to put forth maximum effort and demonstrate that you are an excellent teammate. Often, people do not like group projects due to slackers who will not pull their weight. Your team member/members will let the faculty know if you have met your targets on this assignment.

    The final grade will be assigned to all group members, and then the peer evaluation points will be applied. For instance, if a group receives a 90 on the paper from the professor and the group evaluated you with a score of 10, you will receive a 100 on your paper. If on the other hand, the group receives a score of 90 on the paper and the group evaluates you with a score of 5, you would receive a 95 on the paper.

    Formatting

    The entire document should follow APA 7th edition formatting, including leveled headings, introduction, and conclusion. (Suggestion: Use the areas outlined below as the leveled headings in your paper.) The paper must be 5 to 7 pages in length, typed and double-spaced using 12-point Times New Roman font, and must address each of the following areas:

    • Research question or purpose statement related to your topic (what do you want to know) – this should be clearly written in your introductory paragraph.
    • Review of the Literature – Summary of current research found in the literature regarding your topic.
    • Relevance of the Topic – Provide evidence of relevance to nursing practice and/or nursing education.
    • Need for Further Research – Identify gaps in the research and list specific areas and ideas for future research topics. If the topic has been thoroughly researched, argue the reasons why no further research is needed.
    • Variables Affecting Nurses and/or Clients – Discuss variables that play a role in how your topic affects nurses or clients (age, ethnicity, gender, etc.).
    • Relationship to Quality Care and/or Patient Safety – How does the research of your topic impact the improvement of quality of care?
    • Implications for Nursing Practice – How can the research you discussed in your paper positively impact nursing practice or nursing education? What are ways it can be used in nursing practice and/or nursing education to improve safety, quality, or workflow processes?
