Unit 6 Discussion: Evaluating Real-World ESG Commitments

Description

Purpose

In this discussion, youll investigate how a real company communicates its sustainability commitments and whether those commitments feel credible, measurable, and accountable. Youll apply key sustainability concepts such as goal setting, governance, materiality, and disclosure standards to evaluate how companies earn (or lose) stakeholder trust.

Task

Select one public company you admire, different from the one you used in the Unit 4 discussion and explore its sustainability or ESG commitments using the companys website or most recent ESG/sustainability report.

In your post, include:

  • Company Overview
    • What company did you choose?
    • What type of sustainability or ESG commitments has it made?
    • Include a link to the companys sustainability webpage and the most recent sustainability report.
  • Real or Rhetoric?
    • Based on this weeks learning, evaluate the credibility of one or two specific commitments.
    • Are the goals measurable and time-bound (e.g., reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by 2030)?
    • Do they disclose how progress is tracked (e.g., GRI, SASB, CDP)?
    • Is there clear governance or accountability for these commitments?
  • Your Verdict
    • Would you trust this companys sustainability commitments as a stakeholder (employee, investor, or customer)? Why or why not?
