Data Collection Plan and Digital Portfolio

The way leaders communicate and bring teams together is often a determining factor in the success of the organization. As a curriculum leader, you need to consider how to create and communicate a plan for supporting others, including gathering information, considering the needs of all stakeholders, recruiting team members, and executing or implementing the plan.

Part 1: Staff Survey

At the end of the school year, your site administrator has asked you to survey the teachers on what curriculum-related areas are most important to them and what they need for the upcoming year for themselves and the students to be successful. You must also consider that you will be responsible for introducing a new math curriculum and behavior management model when teachers return for training.

Create a 10-question survey using an application of your choice (e.g., Google Forms, Survey Monkey) that will help you gather information from the teachers and promote yearlong collaboration.

Once you have created the survey, write a 350-500 word reflection addressing the following:

  • Justify how the questions you created for the survey will help gather the information you need for a successful school year.
  • Discuss the school staff or administrators you will need to recruit to help analyze the data gathered from the survey and how you will involve them.
  • Describe the next steps you will take once you have gathered the result of the survey to ensure all stakeholders are informed and that you have effectively allocated resources for the next school year.
  • Explain how one of your leadership strengths and one of your leadership growth opportunities from the results of the leadership assessment in Topic 1 would affect your actions and/or choices in this scenario.

Part 2: Digital Portfolio

This course requires you to reflect on your leadership qualities and develop a digital portfolio that can be used as you begin your new professional role. Throughout your program of study, you will continue to add exemplars of your work to your portfolio that highlight your accomplishments.

Using a free digital platform (e.g., Wix, Canva, Google Sites), create a template for an electronic portfolio that includes the following sections:

  • About You: In addition to any information about your professional experience, include a summary of your leadership style from the Topic 1 leadership assessment. Throughout your coursework, you may add to or revise this section as your experience and knowledge grows.
  • Philosophy on Curriculum Leadership: Explain your overall philosophy on the role and responsibilities of a curriculum leader in your future setting. Throughout your coursework, you may add to or revise this section.
  • Examples of Course Work: During your program of study, you will be asked to add exemplars of your work. You may also choose to add any examples from your professional experiences in the workplace that you believe highlight your role as a curriculum leader.
  • Professional Accomplishments: List your professional accomplishments so far, focusing on those that demonstrate your ability to lead others. Throughout your coursework, you may add to or revise this section.
  • Professional Goals: Create at least three professional goals focusing on what you want to accomplish as you move from a teacher in the classroom to a curriculum leader. Throughout your coursework, you may add to or revise this section as you accomplish goals and/or further explore the roles of a curriculum leader.
