Discussion Prompt
Describe your selected PICOT question and provide a rationale for its development, including a discussion of the specific gap in the literature it aims to address.
Detailed Instructions
This week, students will begin constructing the core of their research focus by developing a PICOT question that addresses a clinically relevant issue in nursing practice. The PICOT question should be meaningful, researchable, and applicable to a patient, population, or system-level healthcare issue.
In the initial post, address the following:
- Present your PICOT question clearly.
- Identify and explain each PICOT component:
- P = Population/Patient/Problem
- I = Intervention
- C = Comparison
- O = Outcome
- T = Time (if applicable)
- Explain why this clinical issue is important to nursing practice.
- Discuss the gap in current literature or practice that your question seeks to address.
- Explain how your PICOT question could contribute to quality improvement, patient outcomes, or evidence-based care.
Purpose of the Activity
This discussion is designed to help students formulate a focused and clinically meaningful researchable question that will guide subsequent discussions on research design, sampling, data collection, and analysis.
