Purpose

The purpose of this discussion is to “relate Egyptian art to funerary traditions and beliefs,” which is a module learning objective. (MODULE 3)

Review Chapter 3 in your textbook (

Gardner’s Art through the Ages: The Western Perspective, Volume I)

and review the links below to remind yourself of the relationship between Egyptian art and funerary beliefs.

Pretend that you are a high-status ancient Egyptian individual and are planning for the afterlife.
Describe at least two objects that would be placed into your tomb. These objects can be sculptures, wall paintings, papyrus scrolls, sarcophagus, etc. Describe how the objects would look, their subject matter, their size, and where in the tomb they would be placed.
- Be sure that the artistic styles of the different objects and the types of objects would be found together in the same time period. State the time period of your tomb (Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, New Kingdom).
Clearly state how the different objects relate to Egyptian beliefs.
