- Topic Sentence: The first sentence of your paragraph should be a topic sentence that clearly expresses the main idea of your paragraph. The topic of your paragraph is the city you live in now or another city you know well. Your topic sentence should briefly describe the city with at least one adjective.
- Supporting Details: Your paragraph should have . Each supporting sentence should be a major supporting detail that directly supports the main idea in your topic sentence. For example, if you say the city is “beautiful” in your topic sentence, then each major supporting detail should be an example or reason why the city is beautiful. Your paragraph should include at least one major supporting detail that is an of the main idea in your topic sentence. You should use “For example” or “For Instance” to introduce the example.
Do not include any sentences that do not directly support the main idea in your topic sentence. See to review supporting details.
- Concluding Sentence: The last sentence of your paragraph should be a concluding sentence that restates the main idea in your topic sentence.
- Sentence Structure: All sentences should have subject-verb agreement. All sentences in your paragraph should be correctly punctuated, . Your paragraph should include at least two correctly punctuated compound sentences.
- Verb Tenses: The main verbs in all sentences should be in the. Do not use the past tense or any other verb tenses.
- Word Forms: Your paragraph should include at least one sentence that uses both together in the correct order. Ex. Los Angeles is an interesting (opinion), busy (factual) city. / Mito is a beautiful (opinion), popular (factual) city.
