Step 1: Choose a Social Problem
Select a social problem that you are passionate about and that resonates with your learning in this course. Some potential topics include:
- Homelessness
- Income inequality and poverty
- Climate change and environmental degradation
- Racism or systemic discrimination
- Gender inequality
- Gun violence
- Mental health stigma
- Access to healthcare
Step 2: Describe the Social Problem (2-3 pages)
Begin your paper by providing an overview of the social problem you have chosen. Address the following:
- What is the problem? Define the issue and explain its scope and scale, including who is affected and how.
- Current Solutions and Limitations: Outline existing solutions or interventions that have been implemented to address the problem. Critically evaluate why these solutions are insufficient, incomplete, or have failed to achieve lasting change.
Step 3: Propose a New Solution (2-3 pages)
After describing the problem and evaluating existing solutions, propose an innovative and practical solution to address the issue. In this section, you should:
- Introduce your solution: Clearly outline what your proposed solution entails.
- Support with Evidence: Provide evidence or examples of similar successful initiatives that could serve as models for your solution. You can draw from case studies, real-world examples, academic research, or other countries’ experiences.
- Practicality: Demonstrate how your solution can realistically be implemented, including the resources, policies, or partnerships that would be necessary to bring it to life.
